The George Eastman Museum to host virtual talk on Eastman’s Historic Gardens on May 15

May 12th, 2020

Rochester, N.Y., May 12, 2020—Following the success of its first two virtual lectures, the George Eastman Museum has announced a third lecture on Friday, May 15 at 1 p.m. (EST).  The free Focus 45 talk will center on George Eastman’s historic gardens, and will be led by Kathy Connor, Curator of the George Eastman Legacy Collection at the George Eastman Museum.

Focus 45: Eastman’s Gardens Then and Now

Friday, May 15 at 1 p.m. (EST)

Register through Zoom

Legacy Curator Kathy Connor will take us on a tour of the historic gardens from 1905, when George Eastman first moved in, through the eventual changes that took place after his death when the mansion became the residence of University of Rochester presidents. The tour will include discussion of why his childhood home was moved to the estate, the restoration efforts undertaken in the early 1990s, and the work that continues to this day. Registration is required via Zoom, as space is limited for the free talk. Registration is open now at eastman.org.

The museum continues to expand its online offerings through Eastman Museum at Home, a repository for activities, online resources, tutorials, and tours to keep people engaged in learning about photography, film, and the legacy of George Eastman.

Live with George Eastman

The museum released several Zoom and desktop backgrounds to make it appear as though you're actually sitting in George Eastman's library or just about to enjoy a film in the Dryden Theatre. Download them here.

Cook with George Eastman

If you’re looking for hands-on activities in the kitchen, try making one of George Eastman’s recipes from his 1919 Camp Cookbook, including a variety of puddings—bread, rice, or cheese—or onions au gratin.

Support the George Eastman Museum

This is a critical time for museums across the globe. The George Eastman Museum encourages individuals to visit eastman.org/support, if you are able to contribute to the museum’s Annual Fund at this time. Donations of all amounts are appreciated. The unrestricted dollars that membership and annual fund gifts provide are essential to the museum's operations and to the exhibitions and public programs that bring our collections to life for our audiences. And as with all of our community's cultural organizations, these dollars have never been more critical.
