Ithaca, NY (1/29/14) ─ The Hangar Theatre's Spring Break-a-Leg program is a one-week musical theatre camp from April 14−18 offering 4th- through 6th-graders the chance to experience all aspects of performance in a fast-moving, fun, and professional theatre environment. By week's end, participants will create an exciting, original musical theatre piece to present in front of friends and family on the Hangar stage!
Spring Break-a-Leg features enriching workshops and hands-on musical theatre classes that young participants will remember for years to come. Classes run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and late pickup is available if needed. Registration is now open.
This is the third year the Hangar has offered the program, which is led by professional teaching artists who specialize in working with young people to develop new skills and express their creativity. Spring Break-A-Leg brings composers and writers to Ithaca to collaborate with local youth in the creation of brand-new musicals. Previous years have seen the creation of a retelling of the Aesop fable THE MEADOW and the musicalization of Shakespeare's A COMEDY OF ERRORS.

The camp itself will take place at the Hangar Theatre facility, which is located at 801 Taughannock Blvd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
Tuition is $250 for the entire week and is fully refundable until March 17, 2014. The Hangar Theatre champions arts education through year-round programming for children and families such as KiddStuff, the Next Generation School of Theatre, School Tours, and Project 4. KiddStuff is a summer season of live theatre based on favorite children's books created specifically for young audiences.For students ages 8 to 18 looking for a summer adventure, the Next Generation School of Theatre offers a variety of classes taught by professional artists who work nationally in the performing arts and teach the most current techniques in their disciplines. Next Generation runs July through August. The most recent School Tour brought We Carry the Dream, a lively new play about the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to rural schools across Tompkins County. And the Hangar's Project 4 brings teaching artists into 4th-grade classrooms all over Tompkins County using theatre as an educational tool. Project 4 residencies currently are provided for every elementary school in the Ithaca, Newfield, and Lansing school districts.
