to Host 2022 Travel Unity Summit Northeast

in travel and tourism

Auburn, N.Y. – The 2022 Travel Unity Summit Northeast will be hosted in Cayuga County, located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, Dec. 7-9, at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn. This year’s theme, “Leading Inclusive Growth in Tourism,” brings together destination marketers, members of the travel industry and economic development professionals to tackle how to go beyond words and ideas, moving forward on the real work that it takes to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into strategic planning and implementation.

Summit topics include understanding overlapping identities, integrating DEI into organizational foundations, how to avoid performative DEI marketing, community engagement and more. The Summit’s sponsors, partners and planning committee organizations include representatives from the New York State Tourism Industry Association, Visit Rochester, Visit Syracuse and Tourism Diversity Matters.

Underscoring the Summit is its hosting city of Auburn, NY – home of the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center, as well as the chosen home of abolitionist, Underground Railroad conductor and equal rights activist, Harriet Tubman. In the year honoring the 200th year of her birth, the Travel Unity Summit Northeast serves as a capstone to the celebrations that have taken place in this Finger Lakes region and across the country.

“We look forward to hosting the 2022 Travel Unity Summit Northeast and are excited for visitors to explore the region’s charm, beauty and history,” said Karen Kühl, Executive Director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism. “With DEI being an important guiding principle in the travel industry and beyond, hosting this Summit in such a historically significant area will enhance attendees’ experiences and add a layer of context that will tie into workshops and discussions.”

Registration and Summit details can be found at travelunity.org/2022northeast. Members of the Travel Unity Alliance and other affiliated organizations receive discounted registration to the Summit; professionals or organizations interested in joining the Alliance should visit travelunity.org/alliance, or contact Executive Director Roni Weiss at roni@travelunity.org.

Attendees requiring hotel accommodations can book at a discounted price through Nov. 7 upon event registration.
