The Inns of Aurora Celebrates Prohibition's Repeal

Nov 25th, 2013

Aurora, N.Y.—The Inns of Aurora continues its 2013-2014 season with its annual big band-inspired Prohibition Era Cocktail Party on Friday, December 6, 2013. The swinging evening will begin in the Aurora Inn’s lakeside speakeasy at 7:00 p.m.—with a live jazz band beginning at 8:00 p.m.—and includes hors d’oeuvres and classic, yet approachable, cocktails featuring liquors from the master mixers at Finger Lakes Distilling. The cost per person is $50 including tax and gratuity per person.

Meryl Davis, the director of marketing at the Inns and primary organizer for the event, is excited to be “bringing the art of bartending back to life.” “This is our second year hosting this party—last year was so much fun—great conversations, lively music, perfect cocktails, and delicious food—and this year promises to be even better. I can honestly say that I’ve been counting down the days!” The event falls two days off of the 80th anniversary of prohibition’s repeal in 1933, and, to help create the mood, guests are highly encouraged to come dressed in their bootleg and flapper best.

The Inns are excited to be partnering with Finger Lakes Distilling, a pioneer in the bourgeoning high-craft distilling movement. According to Davis, “this is such a fantastic opportunity for [the Inns] to recognize the amazing—and local—work that Finger Lakes Distilling are doing.” Thomas Earl McKenzie, FLD’s master distiller, has a background in brewing and farming in the Monroeville area of Alabama, an area known for high-quality bourbons and whiskeys.
