Keuka College’s Master of Social Work Program Receives Accreditation

Jul 18th, 2018

The Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation (COA) has granted Keuka College’s master of social work (MSW) program initial accreditation for four years, the highest appointment possible.

This designation means the COA finds Keuka College’s program in compliance with all accreditation standards and educational policy, and grants accreditation for four years. The last time the College’s MSW program received accreditation was in June 2016.

“This accreditation ensures students are receiving a high-quality education that meets standards held by the profession throughout the country,” says Dr. Doyle Pruitt, associate professor of social work and MSW program director. “These standards are periodically reviewed by professionals in the field and academia to ensure we are responding effectively to dynamic situations and changes to practice. This is based on changing environments and information garnered from research and practice.”

The COA is responsible for developing accreditation standards that define competent preparation and ensuring that social work programs meet these standards. The multistep accreditation process involves program self-studies, site visits, and COA reviews.

“Many employers will only hire graduates from an accredited program,” says Dr. Pruitt. “Graduates of Keuka College’s MSW program can be assured they are prepared to work across a range of settings, social issues, and with a variety of skills.”
