Literature on the Lake Series Continues at Dorie's Bakery:

Nov 11th, 2013

Wells College alumna presents nonfiction works

Aurora, N.Y.—On November 11 at 7:30 p.m., the Inns of Aurora will present the next in its Literature on the Lake series, in partnership with the Wells College Visiting Writers Series.  The event will take place at the newly renovated Dorie’s Bakery, and will feature Wells alumna Kayleen Wilkinson reading original works. Coffee, desserts, pastries, and ice cream will be offered for sale at Dorie’s Bakery during the reading.

Kayleen Wilkinson has had her work published in the SUNY Upstate Medical Center’s journal, The Healing Muse. Her nonfiction essay, “Disappearing Act,” detailing her battle with a life-threatening eating disorder, was published in the 2009 issue of The Healing Muse when Wilkinson was a senior at Wells College. She will read from “Disappearing Act,” and also present new work, representing a different perspective on her first essay. A discussion and question-and-answer segment of the evening will also follow Wilkinson’s reading.

“I am thrilled to introduce Kayleen as a reader during our Literature on the Lake series,” states Emily Ambrose, events coordinator for the Inns of Aurora. “I have enjoyed the strength and style of her prose since our time together at Wells College as fellow English majors. The coffeehouse environment provided by Dorie’s Bakery is the perfect backdrop for a casual, intimate reading of the important topics that Kayleen covers in her work.” Dorie’s Bakery will feature Finger Lakes Roasters coffee, house-made desserts from the Aurora Inn Dining Room pastry chefs, and Purity ice cream for sale during the reading.

The Aurora Inn is located at 391 Main Street, Aurora, NY 13026. For further details, please contact Emily Ambrose at 315-364-8885.
