Local Wineries Show Their Industry a Little Love with Winestock NY

Apr 16th, 2014

In the 60s, people had their sit ins and their love ins. Well, the times, they may be a changin', but the concept of coming together to support something you believe in hasn't.  For the New York Wine Industry Association (NYWIA), this means their annual fundraiser Winestock NY, hosted in the vineyards of Three Brothers Wineries and Estates overlooking Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine region. This year marks the industry event's fifth year, and is slated for Saturday, June 28 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

The event features two stages of live music, a wine tent with 18 plus NYS wineries, along with Three Brother's 3 wineries and brewery, which will also be open. Hand-selected vendors and exhibitors that represent the best of the local agricultural and educational communities will also be showcased. "The event is certainly meant to be a fun afternoon of wine and music," explains Carol Doolittle, event spokesperson and owner of Frontenac Point Vineyard and Estate Winery. "Against that backdrop, our goal is to show attendees how 'behind every bottle of wine are the working farmers who ride tractors' and everything else that is involved in making wine, such as the bottles, corks, labels and grapes."

In addition to local produce and products, food will be available by Smokin' Bagg Dare BBQ and Cippolla Romaine Food Cart. And new this year, the event will debut three educational seminars in keeping with the Association's goal of public education: a general introduction to winemaking and wine tasting, an introduction to food and wine pairing, and an introduction to Finger Lakes beers.

NYWIA is also pleased to announce that Winestock NY 2014 is sponsored in large part by Wilmorite Inc. Wilmorite is a leading commercial real estate development and management company with a majority of projects in the Finger Lakes Region including Eastview Mall, student housing and academic buildings at Syracuse University, Tompkins Cortland Community College, RIT and Nazareth and the proposed Wilmot Casino and Resort. Wilmorite has a corporate history of giving back to their community and supporting local businesses including the Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester. "Helping to sponsor Winestock 2014 is a great opportunity for Wilmorite to show support for the local wineries, as well as our commitment to buying New York products and services," said Jim Wilmot, Assistant Vice President of Gaming.

Waterloo Container in Waterloo is also a major sponsor of Winestock 2014. Other sponsors include Stork Insurance in Penn Yan, the Label Gallery in Norwich, Viatran Inc. in Webster and many in-kind supporters.

Tickets to Winestock NY 2014 are $15 in advance and are available now through www.winestockny.org. Seminars are $10 each, with seating limited to 40 audience members each.  Seminar tickets can also be purchased online, or at the event. More information on the musical, vendor, winery and seminar line-ups will be released over the next several weeks.
