On Saturday January 26, from 12:00 to 5:00 PM, McGregor Vineyard is hosting their annual Robbie Burns Day Celebration. This is a great way to beat the winter blues and celebrate all things Scottish! The winery is located on the east side of Keuka Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes and has a beautiful view of the Keuka Lake Bluff. Samples of traditional Scottish foods will be served to visitors to compliment their wine tasting.
Robert Burns, the great poet of Scotland, was born in 1759 and his birthday is celebrated worldwide as a holiday known as Burns' Night, in which poems and songs by Burns are recited and traditional Scottish foods are enjoyed. Visit McGregor Vineyard and sample some of the traditional Scottish dishes served on this holiday. Stacey McGregor is preparing samples Haggis on toast along with Scotch Eggs & Mustard Sauce, and a Sticky Brown Bread smeared with Orange Marmalade Whiskey Butter.
All of McGregor’s fine wines will be available to compliment the food samples. Focus, however, will be on the 2008 Rob Roy Red. This is a rich and hearty dry red Bordeaux styled blend of estate grown Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It’s called “Rob Roy Red” after the great Scottish rogue Rob Roy McGregor.
There is a nominal charge of $10 per person. This fee covers the food and wine samples and a souvenir McGregor wine glass. While reservations are not required, they are greatly appreciated.
McGregor Vineyard was founded in 1971 and is one of the oldest vinifera vineyards in the eastern United States. The winery opened in 1980 and is one of the finest producers of vinifera wines in the state, receiving gold medals in international, national, and state competitions for over 30 years. Since its inception, McGregor Winery has followed the European philosophy of winemaking. Each year's production is a reflection of the, "voice of the grapes," the skill of the vineyard manager and the art of the winemaker.
