Art Explorers' Story Hour: Fall Colors

Free and open to pre-school age children and their caregivers |
Location: Art Lab (36 E. Market St.)

Children’s Librarian Sue McConnell reads beloved stories thematically linked to The Rockwell’s art collection. After, explore and socialize with games and activities, connecting little ones to authentic arts experiences through storytime and unplugged play. 

Attendees are invited to explore the Art Lab and The Rockwell Museum after Story Hour for free.

Conversation on Cultural Stewardship: African American Foodways, Occupation and Oral History

Free and open to the public | Advance registration encouraged 

Join us for a conversation about how to identify, protect, and enhance our important traditions, ways of life, cherished places, and vital relationships with each other and the wider world. 

Listen to panelists share about their work documenting and preserving African American foodways, occupation and oral history in Elmira, New York.

Exhibition Opening Reception | Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray

Open to the public | Advance registration required by 5 p.m. on October 6

Join us for the opening of Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Murayon view at The Rockwell Museum through January 22, 2023. Curator Kirsty Buchanan will give brief remarks.

This exhibition of photographs provides an intimate look at Frida Kahlo, Mexico’s most prolific and well-known woman artist, through the lens of her long-time friend and lover, Nickolas Muray.

School's Out, Art's In! Corn Husk Doll Workshop with Ronnie Reitter (Seneca Nation of Indians/Wolf Clan)

Open to children and their caregivers | Included with regular Museum admission | Registration required
Make your own Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) inspired corn husk doll and explore the Museum galleries with your friends and family. Artist Ronnie Reitter (Seneca Nation of Indians/Wolf Clan) will share about her Haudenosaunee culture and traditions, including the legend of the corn husk doll. She will then lead participants in making their own corn husk creations.

Join us for a conversation about how to identify, protect, and enhance our important traditions, ways of life, cherished places, and vital relationships with each other and the wider world. 

This program focuses on the ongoing work of Native American communities in Western New York to document, remember and heal from the atrocities of the Thomas Indian School.

We invite you to join us for an Information Meet & Greet at The Rockwell Museum to meet Museum staff and volunteers and learn more. We have opportunities for Event Assistants and adult and school tour Docents. 

This event will include an introduction to our collections, refreshments and gallery activities. Current volunteers will be available to answer your questions about The Rockwell’s volunteer program and its many benefits.

Celebrate Day of the Dead with The Rockwell Museum and regional Mexican folk artists. This family-friendly event will be held in The Rockwell’s parking lot, KIDS ROCKWELL Art Lab and the Museum galleries.
