Regional Initiative Welcomes Media Partner

May 27th, 2020

Watkins Glen, NY- Inspire FLX, a regional initiative launched in early May designed to collect and publicize inspiring stories of kind actions large and small welcomes WENY-TV, the locally-owned and operated ABC affiliated based in Horseheads, NY as the initiative’s official media partner.

“When we initially shared our press release with our media partners relative to this concept, we merely hoped they might perceive it as a newsworthy idea and help us get the word out to the community” said Rebekah Carroll, Executive Director of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce. “But when Tammy Haskell, WENY-TV General Manager reached out to me almost immediately after emailing the station with a summary of the program, I knew that it must have resonated with both her and her company. I was delighted when they proposed such an in-depth and meaningful partnership. Now more than ever, it is important to celebrate all that is positive in this world. I can’t thank WENY enough for their partnership with this effort!”

Tammy Haskell, an enduring employee at WENY-TV, and current General Manager, also vividly recalled that moment. “All of us at the station are peppered with pitches and stories many times a day, every day, and while we always carefully listen and do our best to convey those stories that are most crucial to our viewers, but sometimes a story is brought to us that is so timely, compelling, and meaningful to our diverse audience that it almost demands that we more actively assist in helping spread the word as broadly and often as possible. And the Inspire FLX program, created in cooperation with a variety of community partners, and shepherded forward by the Chamber, was one such story.”

Whether it’s someone who delivered a much-needed grocery item to their neighbor in the midst of a shortage or a church leader who rose to the occasion on behalf of their fellow parishioners, Inspire FLX will give everyone in the Finger Lakes Region a way to both recognize and celebrate the many acts of heroism so many of us have witnessed over this difficult period of time. Residents are encouraged to use the simple form located at http://www.inspireflx.com to submit stories of kindness and generosity they’ve witnessed to be both shared and celebrated. Some stories may be shared on the Inspire FLX Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/inspireflx) and Carroll happily hints that some nominees will also be recognized at a regional celebration to be scheduled when gathering restrictions are lifted throughout the state.

The nomination form asks users to submit contact information for their nominee, and among a couple other details also asks the user to identify which Inspire FLX value the action aligns most strongly with: Kindness, Philanthropy, Generosity, or Selflessness. Inspire FLX is open to everyone in the Finger Lakes Region.
