AUBURN, NY (May 6, 2020) - The Schweinfurth Art Center is canceling its annual two-week summer art quilt conference, Quilting by the Lake (QBL), due to the COVID-9 pandemic. However, staff has rescheduled many of the workshops to be held at the art center in October. The two-, three-, and five-day classes will be held between Oct. 13 and 30, 2020.
"We love seeing our regular participants year after year and welcoming newcomers to the fold," said Schweinfurth Executive Director Donna Lamb. "That's why it was so hard for us to make the decision to cancel Quilting by the Lake. But we wanted to still offer our intensive classes taught by internationally known instructors while still keeping our participants and staff safe."
Lamb said that classes will be smaller and the Art Center will be following protocols for social distancing and cleaning.
Quilting by the Lake Schweinfurth Edition (QBLS) will include many classes and teachers originally scheduled for QBL, along with previously scheduled Studio Schweinfurth workshops. Classes will be held in the Barbara Feinstein Sewing Studio and Davis Family Gallery, both on the art center's second floor, and the basement wet studio, which includes large sinks and two washers and dryers.
"One of the advantages we have is our large classrooms, and we will be setting them up with social distancing in mind," said Schweinfurth Program Director Davana Robedee. "Everyone will have plenty of space. With fewer classes and participants overall, these sessions will be smaller gatherings."
