SODUS BAY LIGHTHOUSE JULY FOURTH EXTRAVAGANZA

Sodus Point, NY — The Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum invites everyone to celebrate Independence Day at its annual July Fourth Extravaganza.  This year marks the Lighthouse Museum’s 30th season!

 

The fun begins on Thursday, July 3, with a Red, White, and Blue Kiddie Parade beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Children in costume march from the Sodus Point Fire Hall, 8364 Bay Street, to the Pavilion of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, 7606 North Ontario Street.  Participants receive postcards and refreshments.

 

The Village of Sodus Point Fireworks Display is also held on July 3.  The lawn of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse provides a perfect location to watch the fireworks, which are set off after dark from the Sodus Bay channel pier.

 

Friday, July 4, kicks off with the always-popular Breakfast on the Bluff from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Enjoy a hot breakfast of eggs, sausage, potatoes, biscuits, coffee, and juice on the Lighthouse bluff overlooking Lake Ontario.  This year’s breakfast will be provided by Scottsville and Sodus Lions clubs, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum.  Cost for breakfast is $8.

 

Registration for the Lighthouse 5-K Run begins at 7:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 9:00 a.m.  This popular 5-K Race, underwritten by McDonald’s of Wayne County and the 2014 Lighthouse Events Sponsors, draws over 500 runners to its USA Track & Field certified course.  Runners and walkers can print registration forms and course maps or register online at www.sodusbaylighthouse.org.

 

Visitors can browse an Art & Craft Show from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Artists and craftspeople will be selling pottery, jewelry, clothing, paintings, photographs, greeting cards, furniture, and much more on the lighthouse lawn.

 

From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. there is a FREE Outdoor Concert.  The first concert of the Summer Concert Season at the Lighthouse features the Gap Mangione Big Band playing swing and Big Band favorites.  Audience members should bring a chairs and sun protection.  Refreshments are available. 

 

The Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum will be offering FREE admission all day on Friday, July 4.  Visitors can climb the lighthouse tower and see displays on the War of 1812 Battle of Sodus Point, lighthouse tools, railroad history, and recreation on Sodus Bay.

 

In addition to on-street parking, a grassy lot is available at the corner of Bay and North Ontario streets, with free shuttle bus service to the lighthouse grounds on July 4th.
