Waterfalls


Taughannock Falls features a waterfall with a 215 foot drop and is one of largest in the Finger Lakes region. Watkins Glen features 19 waterfalls throughout the Watkins Glen State Park. The city of Rochester even features a number of waterfalls at the downtown High Falls section of the city. There are waterfalls spread throughout the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Even if you don't have the time to make it to Taughannock Falls in Ithaca or High Falls in Rochester there are probably spectacular waterfalls near you, wherever you are in the Finger Lakes. Ask around for friendly local recommendations and suggestions!

Some waterfalls in the area can be seen from the road or a parking lot and some you have to make your way along a park trail in order to find the scenic beauty of a waterfall. The following list tells you a little more about the waterfalls in the Finger Lakes.

 

 

Waterfall Favorites

Letchworth State Park  - “Grand Canyon of the East”  on the western borders of the region offers outstanding views, miles and miles of trails for hiking and horse back riding, biking, rafting and kayaking and more.  Easy / moderate difficulty. 

High Falls  -  in the downtown area 60 Browns Race Rochester, NY , offers  walkway for viewing.  nearby shops, museums and brewery.  Easy difficulty. 

Conkin Gully  -  NYS Rt 245  in the Hi-Tor Wildlife Management area, Parrish Hill Rd.  Park at the base and strap on your watershoes and hike up the gorge, up and over multiple small cascades.   Moderate  difficulty. 

Watkins Glen -  Base entrance in town on Rt 14.  One of our the Finger Lakes regions most  spectacular attraction.
Walk up and around the gorges' stairs to 19 different waterfalls and cascasdes.   

Taughannock Falls - This falls has an incredible drop of 215 feet, and is one of the highest in the region.   View from the balcony accessible from the upper parking lot near Rte 89. Trail to the bottom or Rim available.

Buttermilk Falls -   Visible just off Rt 13 south of Ithaca, NY.   Swim at the base of the falls during the summer or hike the trails along the gorge.  Easy / moderate difficulty.

Lucifer Falls -  Located in Robert Treman Ste. Pk. south of Ithaca is another majestic waterfall in the Enfield Glen.  Hiking trails wind around smaller waterfalls and lead to the 115 Ft Lucifer Falls.

Fillmore Glen - Fillmore Glen State Park, Rt 38 Moravia provides camping, nature trails,  5 waterfalls in the Glen and a swimming area fed by the creek.

Pratts Falls -  County Rd 218 Northeast of Pompey, NY in Onondaga County.  This waterfalls is 137 feet and part of Limestone Creek.  There is a trail that provides viewing of the falls from the rim, mid point and at the base.
