Johnston House Open House Days
Visit the home of John and Margaret Johnston, Scottish immigrants who moved to the area in 1822. John Johnston was a farmer and agricultural innovator from Scotland.
At the Johnston House, guests are introduced to the Johnston family through exhibits and hands-on activities. Learn about Margaret Johnston’s eventful journey from Scotland to New York. Play tabletop games in the kitchen, where the Johnston family briefly ran a tavern to supplement their income. Try your hand at chores the Johnston family would have done. Explore various popular beauty and hygiene rituals for Margaret and the six Johnston daughters.
There is something for both children and adults alike at Johnston House. The exhibits allow visitors to dig deeper into 19th century farm and home life and learn about the importance of John Johnston to our lives today.
The site also includes the Mike Weaver Drain Tile Museum, which contains a large collection of drain tiles dating from ancient times to the present.
