Festivals, Happy Hour, Live Music, Theatre, and More!

It doesn’t matter what your interests are or who you’re in the Finger Lakes with, you can always find a great event to enrich your time in the region with those you care about.

Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

Brenna O'Toole's Evening Light
Art Installation: Brenna O'Toole

On display in the Tasting Room for all of May and June!

Don’t miss Brenna’s reception on May 5th from 5:30-7:30pm.

Brenna O’Toole is a pastel painter and calligrapher who lives and works in Ithaca, New York. She is inspired by the natural world, and she seeks to capture ephemeral moments of beauty in her paintings.

Brenna’s primary focus is landscapes; she loves to explore the world around her through art. Reflections on water, the interplay between light and shadow, the ever-changing sky — all of these are deep wells of inspiration, and she never tires of them. Brenna has a strong affinity for soft pastels. Expressing the shapes created by light feels natural with the medium, and it is always a joy to discover the right colors for each piece.

Brenna lives with her husband, Al, and they enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors. Almost all of her reference material comes from hikes or walks they’ve taken together. She grew up in Webster, New York, received a BA in Studio Art, and lived in Ithaca for a short time before moving downstate. Her paintings have been shown in several galleries and venues across the state, from the Adirondacks to the Hudson Valley, where she lived until 2020 upended the world. She is amazed and grateful to be back in the Finger Lakes.

Enjoy musical evocations of religious traditions from around the world, where we encounter music’s remarkable ability to calm the mind and uplift the soul, eliciting both serenity and joy. A raucous evocation of the festival atmosphere in Temples in Taiwan by Lu Yun contrasts with Maurice Ravel’s “Kaddisch,” a melismatic, soaring prayer. The Bloch Piano Quintet is an epic study of such juxtapositions, seamlessly moving from agitation to meditation to rapture.

Miniatures yard sale
MINIATURES YARD SALE AT THE NATIONAL SOARING MUSEUM

The first annual Miniatures Vendors Yard Sale will be held at the National Soaring Museum on Sunday, June 11 from 10-4.  This is a great opportunity for miniaturists and dollhouse enthusiasts to pick up some great bargains to begin a new project or enhance one already in progress.  Our 25 sales tables will represent vendors from all over New York State and north central Pennsylvania. Don’t miss this special event!

Admission to the Miniatures Yard Sale is included in a special one-day reduced museum admission of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 7-18.  Children ages 6 and under are admitted free. The museum, which is located at 51 Soaring Hill Dr., Harris Hill, Elmira, NY, is open every day of the week from 10-5.

Located atop Harris Hill in Elmira, NY, the soaring museum is open year ‘round. Here you can explore the history of soaring where soaring in America began, with one of the largest collections of historical and vintage gliders and sailplanes in the world.

In addition to the museum, there is a large playground, amusement park, swimming pool and picnic area on the Harris Hill campus, including the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation Flight Center, where visitors can purchase a 20-minute sailplane flight over the Chemung Valley.  Flights are available during the spring, summer and fall, weather permitting.  Watching the flights take off and land is free.

The museum itself houses not only a significant collection of sailplanes, but also presents a vast array of soaring trophies, memorabilia, photography and special exhibits. A trip through the National Soaring Museum tells the entire history of early soaring in America.

Piedmont Bluz
Piedmont Bluz

The Piedmont Blūz Acoustic Duo, comprised of Valerie and Benedict Turner, are ambassadors of Country Blues music and the Piedmont style of fingerpicking. Their mission is to help bring awareness to this unique aspect of African-American culture, and to the contributions of early blues artists, through performing and teaching.

They have been entertaining audiences both domestically and abroad and are much loved wherever they go. As 2018 inductees into the New York Blues Hall of Fame, this husband-and-wife duo feel that "there are stories to tell, people to remember, and things that must be said"; so, in addition to tickling your ears with delightful music, they weave a bit of history into the presentation of each song.

A Piedmont Blūz concert isn’t just music – it’s an experience as they transport you back to the 1920s and 1930s, the hey-day of acoustic Country Blues music. In addition to performing songs from that time-frame, they introduce each piece with an interesting anecdote about either the composer, the time period, or the song itself.

The Treman Show

This episode of Walk in the Park is a guide to the natural and cultural features of this extraordinarily beautiful park near Ithaca, exploring its history, revealing its striking geology, and explaining its trails, mill museum, swimming area, and other amenities.

This episode (44) was originally produced in 2007 with the collaboration of the Friends of Robert H. Treman State Park and the Finger Lakes State Parks. I updated it in 2020 with a few minutes at the end about the centennial of this first state park in the Ithaca, NY area, a segment borrowed from a recent episode (233) of Walk in the Park.
