Village of Newark

An Erie Canal Village

Newark's setting along the historic Erie Canal reminds us of the early beginnings of commerce and growth in Western New York.  Today, Newark offers a combination of a proud heritage, a quiet small town, and a wonderful place to live or visit.  Centrally located in the Finger Lakes Region, Newark is just minutes from the Finger Lakes wine trails, Lake Ontario fishing, local ski resorts, hiking areas, apple farms, outlet shopping, the birthplace of the Mormon religion and many more attractions.  Newark is the commercial hub of Wayne County, Rts.31 & 88, 16 mi. north of NYS Thruway I-90 Exits 42 & 43.

New York State's Erie Canal passes through the Village of Newark allowing boaters to travel through a scenic water route that runs from Albany to Buffalo.  Boaters have the opportunity to dock at the T. Spencer Knight Park (between the East Avenue and North Main Street Bridges) which includes picnic areas, a gazebo, a covered pavilion and benches that overlook the canal.  The Port of Newark provides boaters many free amenities: ample docking on both sides of the waterway, electric service, potable water hookup and a pump-out station.  Free amenities for boaters and bicyclists include restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi.  A bicycle-friendly community, Newark incorporates a portion of the Canal Way Trail/Empire State Trail System that gives ample recreation for hikers, bikers or individuals that just wish to enjoy wildlife and quiet trails.

Attractions such as Runaway Blue Brewing Company, restaurants, stores, Doug Kent's Rose Bowl Lanes, The Arcade Project, etc., keep residents and visitors alike entertained and active.  Newark is home to the Newark Pilots, 2011 Champions of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.  Hot dogs, baseball, and apple pie, Newark has it all!

Our Public Library, Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, and Hoffman Clock Museum offer further prospects for life-long learning while the parks and Community Center give a place for activities and relaxation.  Every year, Village residents and visitors enjoy a variety of community events, and much more.

Rural charm and city convenience merge in our municipality, which we feel offers a wide range of activities and attractions to satisfy the diverse needs of our residents and visitors.  Some of our many events include: The Wine and Artisan Festival, The Taste of Wayne County, Newark Rotary Family Festival, and Home for the Holidays Celebration.
