Afternoon Tea Series: 1876 Centennial Celebration
Enjoy afternoon tea at Rose Hill Mansion. The traditional tea service will feature a variety of teas, finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts. During the tea service, Historic Geneva staff will lead a program about life during the 1800s. Each month the program will focus on a different aspect of the Rose Hill story.
$35 per person for one Tea or purchase the entire series (all four Teas) for $120 per person.
June 27: 1876 Centennial Celebration
On July 4, 1876, the United States celebrated its 100th birthday with celebrations across the nation. As part of the celebration Geneva hosted several community-wide events. Learn how the Swan family and other Genevans participated in the celebrations.
July 25: The Workers of Rose Hill
The Swans did not live at Rose Hill alone. There were workers who cooked and cleaned for the family. Others tended to the grounds, animals, and crops. Discover the lives of Rose Hill’s domestic workers and farm laborers.
August 29: A Taste of Rose Hill
At Rose Hill animals and produce were raised for market and meals. Explore the diverse foods enjoyed by the Swan family. Along with farm products, see what was available for purchase at local stores.
September 19: Mourning Customs of the 1860s
During the 1800s, illness and death were a part of everyday life. Few families were spared from loss, including the Swan family. Learn how the Swan family grieved and celebrated the lives of their loved ones.
