Annual Festivals & Special Events

Fun for the whole family

There are a number of great annual festivals and events throughout the Finger Lakes every year. Finger Lakes events showcase the rich character of our communities year-round.

The Finger Lakes is wine country, so don't forget to check on special events with our Wine Trail partners. But, there's much more to the Finger Lakes. Events centered around outdoor adventure, our rich history, the changing seasons, harvest season and the region's agricultural bounty, sport and music are never far away.

GlassFest in Corning celebrates the long history of glass and glassmaking in Corning, with many events held in Corning’s Gaffer District and at the Corning Museum of Glass. Looking for out of the box unique celebrations of music, art, and more? Don’t miss the Rochester Fringe Festival celebrating the not so mainstream art of the ‘fringes’. More music abounds at the Geneva Music Festival with music and the arts taking place with celebrations around the Finger Lakes in various towns and communities.

Live music can be found throughout the region nearly every day of the week by visiting our partner FLX Music 247.

Find true local culture in the county fairs hosted in each of the 14 counties of the Finger Lakes. There you will find the taste, sights and sounds of summer in the region.

TURNING 15 ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM

Available for Streaming Monday, January 10 – Sunday, January 23, 2022

Filled with traditional and original Gospel and Freedom songs, Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom tells the moving and inspiring true story of Lynda Blackmon, the youngest person to walk all the way from Selmato Montgomery, Alabama, on the Voting Rights March in 1965. Linda was jailed nine times before her fifteenth birthday as she and her friends fought alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to secure the right to vote for African Americans. Ally Sheedy adapted the award-winning memoir by Lynda Blackmon Lowery (DialPress, 2016) for the stage. Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom is directed by Fracaswell Hyman and the music director is Joshuah Brian Campbell. The show is produced by Lynda Blackmon Lowery, Miranda Barry, Amy Sprecher, Voza Rivers and the New Heritage Theatre Group.

Please Note: This show tells the true story of the sometimes brutal period of Civil Rights history in the United States, including video of actual events. Some content may not be appropriate for children under 10.

Curriculum Ties: Black History, Civil Rights

Recommended for Grades 6 – 12

Show Length: 50 minute performance and a 30 minute documentary-style interview with Lynda Blackmon Lowery

Art Opening at Damiani Cellars: Stahl Caso

It’s time to turn off your brain and let feelings and stimuli take over. Join us Saturday for amazing wine, small bites, and art by local artist, Stahl Caso.

SPECIAL
$2 off glasses of the new 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon or 10% off bottles. Full cheese and charcuterie menu available for purchase. Masks are required.

FROM THE ARTIST:
In this collection of paintings, I have focused on my relationship with nature, titled “Portal Farming on Rural Moon.” I take a fantastical approach to seeds and plants within our lives.

I use primarily recycled materials in my Art. Found wood and paints, gifted materials from friends and occasionally items bought at second-hand shop like Ithaca Re-Use. I feel like the planet is covered in usable goods and it is one of my priorities to turn them into Art.

My process in making Art consists of multiple layers and formations over days and weeks. Some of my pieces have maybe six or seven previous pictures painted on the material. I just keep going until I feel like the Art has finished its journey. A common theme in my work is the creation of different rooms and doorways within the piece. I’m not entirely aware of why I do this, but it has been a component of my work for years. I do like the idea of life taking me in different directions based on the path I choose to take. Not in a super spiritual way but more of a pragmatic decision-making way. You never know what’s up ahead unless you go there…

Thank you for taking the time to look at my Art and read this short description/artist statement, I hope you found it enjoyable…

– Stahl Caso
