Our founder, Konstantin Frank, was born on the most patriotic of days – July 4th! Join us for this double-header of a holiday where we will be pouring specialty wines for tasting reservations, and serving alluring flight and food options in Eugenia’s Garden!

A.T. Walley’s will be hosting a downtown Italian festival on July 1st.

We will be using the State Street Park for the festivities along with our outside patio.

To kick off the season, one of our favorite musicians, Rachel Beverly will be jamming out and playing from 1-4 pm. We’ll have seasonal mimosa flavors on deck for a great afternoon!

When weather permits, performances will take place on our covered porch where music can be enjoyed from our tasting room, porch seating, and lawn seating.  Or, feel free to bring a picnic blanket or folding chairs for set up on the lawn.  In inclement weather, the show will go on in our Tasting Room.

Join us for pizza by Toss N Fire, wine and music on the patio! Reservations are required. A $5 cover per person will be charged at the time of booking. Our tables seat up to 6 people. If you have a group larger than 6, you will need to book multiple tables or call the winery for availability. If you are booking with friends and want to be at the same table, please make the reservation under one name. Wine club members will receive their respective discount on bottles of wine purchased with your meal. Pizza on the patio is an outdoor event held rain or shine, under our covered pavilion. During inclement weather, some guests will be seated inside. Please contact us with questions or concerns regarding dietary restrictions or special requests. Gluten free and dairy free options are available with advanced notice.

We have limited seating. We kindly ask that you call and cancel 24 hours before the event. No shows will be charged $25/person.

Crafted and led by our local friend and passionate Yoga instructor Jan Corning.  Jan has partnered with Meg Myers and Margaret Vlymen to create a deep experience of restorative Yoga, meaningful meditation, relaxation, yummy food, and nutrition.

West End Gallery announces the opening of the highly anticipated exhibit, “Eye in the Sky” featuring GC Myers.  The exhibit will feature nearly 50 new paintings by the nationally known artist!  There will be an Opening Reception on Friday, July 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Meet the Artist, enjoy live music and light refreshments while mingling with fellow art lovers!   Music will be performed in the Upstairs Gallery by Harpist, Meredith Kohn Bocek.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  Families are always encouraged to visit.
 

GC Myers is a nationally known contemporary painter from the Finger Lakes region of New York.  He came to painting in mid-life and quite by chance, because of an accident that occurred while building his home in the early 1990’s.  Since that time, his recognizable landscapes, known for their strong colors and moods, are avidly collected in the United States and abroad.  Over the years, he has had over 40 solo exhibitions at galleries across the country which represent his work.

Myers speaks of his newest collection of paintings:

"I’ve been exhibiting my paintings at the West End Gallery since 1995, doing many group and solo shows.  I believe this year’s solo show, Eye in the Sky, is my 22nd at the place I consider my home gallery.  

Like many other things that take place over an extended period, my painting has evolved and changed.  The techniques and process of my painting have constantly shifted, sometimes dramatically.  And though I remain primarily a landscape painter, elements have been added to my paintings.  There were red-roofed houses, red chairs, sailboats, paths, and fields of flowers, among others.  And, of course, the Red Tree that became a sort of trademark, being present in the majority of my paintings over the years.

But there has also been another element that has been present and almost as ubiquitous as that Red Tree.  It is the sun or moon that often appears as a large ball in the skies over my imagined landscapes.

Over the years, this sun/moon orb has taken on a greater role.  Looking back at older work, the sun/moon was not shown often and was quite small in size when it did appear.  It was often just a minor 

compositional element.  However, in the intervening years, this sun/moon has grown in size and prominence in the paintings.  It now has a real presence in the paintings, often serving as either the central figure or as a spiritual partner or guide for the Red Tree.  The two often seem engaged in a silent conversation in many of the works.

There are probably many reasons for this evolution but the best explanation, at least to my mind, comes from a dream I had a number of years ago.  It occurred in the months before the West End show of whatever year it was, at a time when I was struggling with my confidence.  I felt more deeply blocked and dejected in my work than I had ever experienced before.  

I felt empty, like I had perhaps given all I had to give in my work.

I had a dream one night during this time.  I was standing under a dark night sky that was colored in dark green tones.  In the dream, I was experiencing the same sort of anxiety that I was feeling in my waking life.  Then there appeared an opening in the sky, as though a small sliding panel were opened in the sky.

An eye appeared in the opening.  Tinted green in the light of the sky, it seemed to be a clear and ancient eye, surrounded by deep creases and wrinkles that were visible as it peered down at me through the opening.

No words were spoken, no singular message transmitted, or wisdom imparted.  It was just there.

It had a great pacifying effect on me in the dream as though I instantly knew that there was something overseeing me and that I was not alone, that all was as it should be.

I woke up with that same pacified feeling of assurance, knowing that everything was as it should be. It was a drastic change from my demeanor of the days and weeks before.  Its effect has carried me through that time and in times of anxiety since.  The sun/moon has come to symbolize that dream and the ensuing feeling.  I believe that dream was the starting point for the increased prominence of the sun/moon orb in my work.

The sun/moon has become a vital element in my work, nearly as much as my Red Tree.  It serves many roles, often as a steadying force, symbol of hope and a sense of communion with the universe.  I think this year’s show, Eye in the Sky, gives ample evidence of that."

GC Myers began exhibiting at West End Gallery in 1995 and is one of the Gallery’s most popular artists.  His work is in numerous collections throughout the world.  In addition to being represented by West End Gallery, Myers’ work is exhibited in several other galleries across the country.  His work has been featured in American Art Collector Magazine.  He also was interviewed on the popular Out of Bounds program for NPR by Tish Pearlman and was featured on PBS for Artists Café.  

Upstairs Gallery: In addition to GC Myers' solo exhibit “Eye in the Sky” exhibition in the Main Gallery, there will be new artwork by more than 40 artists on display in the Upstairs Gallery on the second floor.

Thursday evenings 6:30 - 8 PM

Join us for pizza by Toss N Fire, wine and music on the patio! Reservations are required. A $5 cover per person will be charged at the time of booking. Our tables seat up to 6 people. If you have a group larger than 6, you will need to book multiple tables or call the winery for availability. If you are booking with friends and want to be at the same table, please make the reservation under one name. Wine club members will receive their respective discount on bottles of wine purchased with your meal. Pizza on the patio is an outdoor event held rain or shine, under our covered pavilion. During inclement weather, some guests will be seated inside. Please contact us with questions or concerns regarding dietary restrictions or special requests. Gluten free and dairy free options are available with advanced notice.

We have limited seating. We kindly ask that you call and cancel 24 hours before the event. No shows will be charged $25/person.

When weather permits, performances will take place on our covered porch where music can be enjoyed from our tasting room, porch seating, and lawn seating.  Or, feel free to bring a picnic blanket or folding chairs for set up on the lawn.  In inclement weather, the show will go on in our Tasting Room.

Wines can also be purchased in our tasting room by the glass or by the bottle as well.  

Picnic items include local cheeses, breads by Blue Heron Bakery, salamis, ferments, olives, nuts, popcorn, pretzels, chips, crackers, pesto, specialty mustards, Hedonist chocolates, grape candy, etc...  We also offer local canned beer, kombucha, bottled soda, iced teas, and sparkling water. 

On Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30, Genesee Country Village & Museum will bring together partners from all over the expansive Genesee Valley Region for a weekend-long celebration exploring history, celebrating natural splendor, and discovering new ways to enjoy and preserve this important part of New York State. The Genesee Valley Great Outdoors Fest, in its first year held at the living history museum, will showcase all of what makes the Genesee Valley Region amazing – from big vistas at High Falls and Letchworth, to lesser traveled paths along the Genesee Greenway Trail – and all the towns, attractions, shops, and organizations along the way. Visitors can explore hiking, rock climbing, yoga, axe throwing, creek wading, foraging, cooking, bicycling, local wildlife, and more – plus, see the Museum’s newly renovated Nature Center, watch an exciting lumberjack competition, shop an adventurous vendor fair, learn from partnering organizations from around the region, and so much more. Explore the ways in which New Yorkers in the 19^th century connected with the outdoors, and how we’re still utilizing, protecting, and enjoying the bountiful outdoor wonders that make up the Genesee Valley Region today. The Genesee Valley Great Outdoors Fest is supported by a grant from Empire State Development and I LOVE NY/New York State's Division of Tourism through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Explore the night skies and the geologic wonders below (a kick-off to the new festival)

Visitors are invited to kick off this new special event weekend with evening programming on Thursday, July 27: The Stars Above and the Gorge Below. Throughout the evening, join Conrad Baker from Letchworth State Park, for a discussion about the history of this local wonder and outdoor attraction, listen in on a talk by Rochester Museum & Science Center’s Eclipse Partnerships Coordinator, Dan Schneiderman, about the total solar eclipse in 2024, enjoy a family-friendly space-themed story time in the Nature Center Amphitheater, and of course, examine the night skies on a guided star walk with RMSC’s Dan Schneiderman and the Rochester Astronomy Club. Take advantage of the lack of light pollution in Mumford, NY, as you learn about the stars, the Perseids meteor shower, viewing Mars and Venus, and the International Space Station. Watch exciting feats of strength and explore logger sports (Saturday only)

Gather around the Great Meadow during this new festival weekend to watch an exciting logger-sports competition. See feats by lumberjacks and lumberjills from the New York State Lumber Jack Organization, explore axe throwing, log-chopping, operating the two-person saw, fire-building competitions, see men’s underhand and standing block, women’s underhand and standing block, axe throw, open hotsaw, springboard, obstacle pole and partner fire build activities. This is a real competition, with real prizes and stakes – don’t miss it!

Explore a multitude of outdoor adventures and thrilling activities for families

Guests will have the opportunity to explore all varieties of outdoor adventuring available in the Genesee Valley Region - hiking, kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, axe throwing, yoga, camping, birding, and more. Join certified yoga instructor Robyn Paige (Vault Rochester) for outdoor vinyasa surrounded by heirloom gardens in the Historic Village (Saturday, July 29 at 11 a.m.). This yoga class is appropriate for all bodies and skill levels. Pre-registration for yoga is not necessary, and participation in this class is included in the cost of a ticket for the Genesee Valley Great Outdoors Fest. On Saturday, July 29, try axe throwing with Axecessive Force, and on Sunday, July 30, learn how to rock climb on a portable rock wall with Niagara Climbing Center. Additional tickets will be required for both rock climbing and axe throwing.

Explore the Historic Village and how 19^th-century New Yorkers connected with the great outdoors

Visitors will make their way through the Museum’s 19^th-century Historic Village and see how knowledgeable costumed interpreters are utilizing local game and products grown in our heirloom gardens to produce dishes authentic to the 19th-century in the Genesee Valley Region. Explore cooking demonstrations featuring: mock pigeon pie, rotisserie wild hare, planked fish, fricasseed eel, crystalized wildflowers, fried game hen, boiled quail eggs, twirled woodchuck, and more. See fresh heirloom vegetables and plants grown on-site and utilized in kitchens, learn tools and tricks of cooking over an open flame, and explore the ways in which agriculture in the 19^th-century affected land use.

See the renovation process in the Nature Center at GCV&M

Genesee Country Village & Museum is excited to share with visitors on this event weekend the progress in a newly-renovated Nature Center. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore brand new interpreted exhibit spaces, meet the critters who call this building home, and learn from Naturalists about the natural history of the Genesee Valley Region. Those interested in supporting this renovation project and others like it are encouraged to make a gift.

Explore the history of waterfowling and bicycling in the John L. Wehle Gallery

Tour the exhibit Duck, Duck, Shoot! The Story of American Waterbirds (closing October 2023), to explore the hunting of waterbirds in 19^th-century America – a practice moving from sustenance hunting to excessive hunting, from near destruction of waterbirds to an environmentally conscious and sustainable American pastime. Plus, learn all about Rochester NY’s 19^th century bicycling craze during a curator-hosted talk on Saturday, July 29, from 2 – 3 p.m. Rochester, NY was the first in the nation to embrace the bicycle craze of the 1890s. The city was linked with its satellite neighbors by the construction of countryside “side paths” – by the hundreds of miles.
