ABOUT THE RMSC COUNCIL

RMSC Council was initiated in 1941 when several Rochester women decided to form a Women’s Council for social interaction and fundraising support for the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC). These women volunteered their time and energy by creating special activities and annual fundraising events.

In 2018, the RMSC Women’s Council opened its membership to men and women, changed its name to the more inclusive RMSC Council, and expanded its mission to provide educational programming to the Rochester community. Since its inception 80 years ago, RMSC Council has proudly donated close to $2.8 million to RMSC through creative and invaluable fundraising efforts.

Brenna O'Toole's Evening Light
Art Installation: Brenna O'Toole

On display in the Tasting Room for all of May and June!

Don’t miss Brenna’s reception on May 5th from 5:30-7:30pm.

Brenna O’Toole is a pastel painter and calligrapher who lives and works in Ithaca, New York. She is inspired by the natural world, and she seeks to capture ephemeral moments of beauty in her paintings.

Brenna’s primary focus is landscapes; she loves to explore the world around her through art. Reflections on water, the interplay between light and shadow, the ever-changing sky — all of these are deep wells of inspiration, and she never tires of them. Brenna has a strong affinity for soft pastels. Expressing the shapes created by light feels natural with the medium, and it is always a joy to discover the right colors for each piece.

Brenna lives with her husband, Al, and they enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors. Almost all of her reference material comes from hikes or walks they’ve taken together. She grew up in Webster, New York, received a BA in Studio Art, and lived in Ithaca for a short time before moving downstate. Her paintings have been shown in several galleries and venues across the state, from the Adirondacks to the Hudson Valley, where she lived until 2020 upended the world. She is amazed and grateful to be back in the Finger Lakes.

Enjoy musical evocations of religious traditions from around the world, where we encounter music’s remarkable ability to calm the mind and uplift the soul, eliciting both serenity and joy. A raucous evocation of the festival atmosphere in Temples in Taiwan by Lu Yun contrasts with Maurice Ravel’s “Kaddisch,” a melismatic, soaring prayer. The Bloch Piano Quintet is an epic study of such juxtapositions, seamlessly moving from agitation to meditation to rapture.

Golijov: Tenaebrae

Lu Yun: Temples in Taiwan

Maurice Ravel: "Kaddisch" from Deux mélodies hébraïques

Bloch Piano Quintet No. 1, B. 43
