Festivals, Happy Hour, Live Music, Theatre, and More!

It doesn’t matter what your interests are or who you’re in the Finger Lakes with, you can always find a great event to enrich your time in the region with those you care about.

Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

Events Added Daily

Make sure to check back frequently to see if any other great events have been added. Events are added daily by businesses from every sector and interest so if there is nothing that sparks your interest now, there very well could be soon!

Fairport Canal Days 2022
Fairport Canal Days
Fairport Canal Days is one of the most popular arts festivals in the Northeast, attracting close to 200,000 visitors on the first weekend of June every year. The festival features over 200 artisans, as well as a variety of music venues, food items, and booths by Fairport Perinton Merchants Association members who sponsor the event. The Canal Days festival began in the mid 1970s, growing exponentially over the years, but always remaining a family-friendly event with something for everyone.

Located on the historic Erie Canal, Fairport is a village filled with charm and character. Having received its name in the early 1800’s from a traveler who declared it a “fair port”, it remains a showcase stop for boaters to this day. Fairport’s “front porch friendly” streets echo its past with beautiful Victorian homes and historic buildings, blended with modern facilities and parks.

The first word that comes to mind for many when describing Fairport is “community”. Fairport Canal Days is the epitome of this word, a volunteer run event that welcomes you to be part of our community.

MONTROSE TRIO

Thursday, June 9, 2022: Montrose Trio
Smith Opera House, 7:30 pm
Jon Kimura Parker, piano; Martin Beaver, violin; Clive Greensmith, cello

Formed in 2013, the Montrose Trio is a collaboration stemming from a long and fruitful relationship between pianist Jon Kimura Parker and the now-disbanded Tokyo String Quartet. Mr. Parker was the quartet’s final guest pianist, and a backstage conversation with first violinist Martin Beaver and cellist Clive Greensmith led to the Montrose Trio’s creation. The Trio quickly established a reputation for performances of the highest distinction– “absolutely top-notch music-making, as fine as one could ever expect to hear.” (The Washington Post)

Comedy with Sky Sands

Special guest Sky Sands is joining us on 6/11/22 for a special night of drinks, food and laughs. Mixing magic, audience participation, impressions and fast paced improvisation one would not call what Sky does a “show”, but rather “a unique experience.” Sky entertains nationally, as well as abroad, headlining comedy clubs, colleges, corporate events, cruise ships, charity fundraising events and has been featured on Cinemax & Showtime Networks, VH-1 and MSNBC, as well as highlighted on America’s Funniest People.

Sky has been voted “Rochester’s Favorite Comedian” 7 times by The Rochester Democrat and Chronice's readers’ poll, Rochester City magazine’s “Best of Rochester” poll, and Freetime magazine’s entertainment poll. We are so excited to host him at Abandon!

The brewery will stay open after hours to host this event in our open-air pavilion. Limited tickets available, so get yours now before they sell out! Your $20 ticket comes with a drink chip to use on a drink of our choice. We will also have our wood-fired pizza and other food available! FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA

Saturday, June 11th: “From Sea to Shining Sea”
Smith Opera House, 7:30 pm
Geoffrey Herd, Grace Park, violin; Ettore Cause, viola; Hannah Collins, Clive Greensmith, cello; Jon Kimura Parker, piano

Jon Kimura Parker and Clive Greensmith join GMF musicians Ettore Causa, Hannah Collins, and Geoffrey Herd to explore trends that shaped American music and culture. From the groovy virtuosity of Chick Correa’s “Got a Match,” to Barber’s emotionally cathartic Molto adagio, to Florence Price’s spiritual-infused Piano Quintet in E minor, this concert is a sonic panorama of the country’s musical traditions. Antonin Dvořák’s own incorporation of Bohemian folk music (exemplified in his Piano Quartet in E-flat Major) serves as an example for American composers in search of a national sound.

FLORENCE PRICE: Piano Quintet in E Minor
CHICK COREA: “Got a Match?”
WILLIAM GRANT STILL: Danzas de Panama
SAMUEL BARBER: String Quartet, Op. 11
ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK: Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-Flat Major, Op. 87

Juneteenth in Harriet Tubman's chosen Hometown
Harriet Tubman's Juneteenth celebration

Join us for a weekend long Juneteenth Celebration to commemorate Black and African American freedom and achievements June 16-19, 2022.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States. The celebration began on June 19, 1865, which became known as Juneteenth, when Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army arrived in Galveston, Texas to deliver the final execution of the Emancipation Proclamation.

For all of us here in Auburn, NY, Juneteenth goes just a little deeper. As the chosen home of Harriet Tubman, the spirit of Juneteenth is alive. It not only commemorates the emancipation of African Americans in the United States, but also celebrates their achievements in history and the fight for a stronger, brighter and fairer future. While in Auburn keep Harriet Tubman’s strength and spirit in mind as you visit the many sites that commemorate her life and fight for freedom. Make sure and stop by her gravesite at Fort Hill Cemetery to leave a little memento in her honor.

Honoring Juneteenth

Celebrating Freedom’s Ring as we honor Juneteenth on Saturday, June 18!

Join us as we Honor Juneteenth, considered the oldest celebration of the end of enslavement in the United States – and an official state holiday here in New York! We will spotlight the events, experiences, and people fundamental to our collective understanding and appreciation of freedom. The holiday is inspired by events that occurred on June 19, 1865, when Union troops brought the message of emancipation and the end of the Civil War to over 250,000 enslaved persons in Texas – more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. These messengers of freedom were met with shock and jubilation.

Dr. Karlyn Sutherland
Connected By Glass | Dr. Karlyn Sutherland

The Corning Museum of Glass is pleased to welcome the public to a Connected by Glass lecture presented by Scottish artist, architect, and Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Karlyn Sutherland.

In this lecture, Karlyn will discuss her work, including her yearlong Fulbright research residency hosted at The Studio and her current solo exhibition at Heller Gallery in New York. Central to Dr. Sutherland’s practice is a long-standing interest in architectural atmospheres and the bond between people and place. Her work uses perspective drawing and optical illusions as tools to contemplate and communicate feelings of detachment from place through suggesting spatial experiences that are inaccessible and unreachable.

The Members reception will take place at 5:30 pm-6:20 pm in the Admissions Lobby.

Our exhibition Past| Present: Expanding the Stories of Glass shows how the stories that objects tell are always evolving.  Past | Present explores how objects reveal stories about people across time and place, and how the Museum can broaden voices and narratives in our galleries. The text in this exhibition—which emerged from dialogues among curators, educators, scholars, artists, and other community members—is only a starting point.

In these unique hot glass demos, our glassmakers are joined by Museum curators to explore ideas and create objects which expand on the themes found in the exhibition.
