GREAT NEWS!
The 2013 STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL 5K ROUTE HAS BEEN RECENTLY CERTIFIED BY USATF (U.S.A. Track & Field). This means the course route was nationally certified as reasonably accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the Road Running Technical Council. This is in addition to the race being sanctioned by USATF! It's all good!
Are you ready to run? Only 2.5 weeks left to register for this year's Strawberry Shake 5K or get your kids to run the Kids' 1 Mile Run. Both races will be held opening night of the Owego Strawberry Festival on Friday, June
14th and will start and finish on Academy Street near the Tioga County Office Building Parking Lot between Main and Academy Street, Owego. The mostly flat and fast 5K race route takes the runners and walkers along the Susquehanna River and through the streets of lovely, downtown historic Owego, as well as straight through the Strawberry Festival itself!
The Kids Run begins at 6:00 pm and the 5K Race/Walk begin at7:00 pm. Awards will be given in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place categories for various age groups for males and females. The Route Map can be viewed athttp://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/171779222/ .
The Kids’ Run is for ages 5-10 only—all others should register for the 5K Run/Walk. The pre-registration entry fee is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids’ Run and ends at midnight on Thursday, June 13th. All registrations that come in after that time will pay Race Day entry fees of $25 for the 5K and $15 for the Kids’ Run. There are no refunds for cancellations.
Pre-registered runners will receive a race T-shirt. All runners will be treated to complimentary bottled water, Chobani yogurt (while supplies last), fruit, coupons for festival activities, free massages, and more!
Pre-registration packets can be picked up on Friday, June 14th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Tioga County Visitor’s Center located at 80 North Avenue across from the Owego Fire Station.
Race bib pick-up and day of onsite registration will be held Friday from 4:00 pm – 6:45 pm for the 5K Race and from 4:00 pm – 5:45 pm for the Kids Run. There is no registration or packet pick-up after 6:45.
All proceeds will benefit the Owego Strawberry Festival, the Owego-Apalachin School District Athletic Boosters Club, and future event activities in the Village of Owego. The 33rd Annual Strawberry Festival is being held Friday, June 14th and Saturday, June 15th in downtown historical Owego. After the race, come be a part of the fun and excitement by sampling the great food, visiting the unique and creative shops, and touring the many offerings of local artisans and vendors that line the streets!
