2012 Tierce Riesling Release Party Set for July 5th

Jun 09th, 2014

Penn Yan, NY  – Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated launch of the 2012 Tierce Dry Riesling.  Held at Red Newt Wine Cellars on July 5th, the celebration will highlight three cool-climate vineyards, three winemakers and one remarkable wine. Tierce Dry Riesling represents a unique collaboration between Anthony Road Wine Company, Fox Run Vineyards and Red Newt Wine Cellars – integrating not only the varying vineyard expressions of Seneca Lake, but also the individual philosophies of the participating winemakers.

This year’s event will have a special guest as the event emcee. British wine writer Stuart Pigott has the honor of introducing the new Tierce Riesling to the crowd. Tierce is mentioned in his newly released book, Best White Wine on Earth: The Riesling Book, which will be available for purchase during the event as well.  Stuart Pigott has traveled the world researching this grape varietal and is very familiar with the rise in popularity Finger Lakes Riesling is having around the world.

Guests will have the opportunity to taste the separate 2012 Tierce Dry Riesling varietal components. Only then will the 2012 Tierce be poured. The event is the first opportunity to purchase the 2012 Tierce Riesling. Tickets are $45 per person and available online at www.tierce2012.eventbrite.com.  Doors open at 7 pm.

Peter Bell (Fox Run), Johannes Reinhardt (Anthony Road) and David Whiting (Red Newt) have peered through the prism of cool-climate terroir to produce Tierce.  Drawing from three distinct winegrowing subregions of Seneca Lake, this Riesling offers complexities and nuances that set it apart from all others – making it uniquely Finger Lakes.  Says Peter Bell, “It's a one-third each blend of lots from each winery. It's all done by a series of tastings where we do lots of trial blends, mostly based on hunches. Such as, what will this smoky-scented lot do to the wine in differing percentages? And ultimately we're looking for an austere style. We talk about minerality, electricity and tension. Can you quantify them? No, but we know what we're looking for.”

“What makes the Tierce Riesling slightly different from year to year is simply the diversity of each growing season. Each year’s unique ‘finger print’ is being captured in every bottle. It is important to allow the vintage to show its true face of its growing season,” continues Johannes Reinhardt.

"The Tierce project is not just about what comes from the vineyard and the cellar but rather it is an expression of collaboration, teamwork, and friendship,” added Dave Whiting, owner and winemaker at Red Newt Wine Cellars.

About Anthony Road Wine Company: Located along the upper-Western shores of Seneca Lake, 12 miles south of Geneva, in the heart of the Finger Lakes, Anthony Road Wine Company’s philosophy continues to be to produce excellent wines for "The Everyday Enjoyment of Life" from local quality fruit.

From vineyards planted in 1973, Anthony Road Wine Company (ARWC) began production with the help of family and friends in 1989 in a small barn owned by Ann and John Martini. Since then, ARWC has expanded significantly while still being family-owned and operated. In fact, the Martini’s children are involved in many significant aspects of the company from the grape growing to wine tastings. Today, using European techniques, ARWC is a grower and producer of fine, award winning wines. These wines include major vinifera varietals (Chardonnay, Riesling, and Cabernet Franc) French-American hybrid grapes (Vignoles), as well as several blended wines. The winery has a unique Tasting Room, a new, state-of the art wine processing facility and beautifully landscaped gardens. A true self-contained "grape-to-bottle" operation, all winemaking, bottling, labeling, and storage are handled on-site.

About Fox Run Vineyards:  Fox Run Vineyards overlooks Seneca Lake in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes, one of the world’s premier cool-climate wine regions. For more than a century, Fox Run was a dairy farm until being restored and opened as a winery in 1990. Today Fox Run is one of the most-visited wineries in the Finger Lakes. With fifty acres of vineyards, the winery was one of the region’s first artisanal wine producers, creating a remarkable range of limited-production, site-expressive estate wines. Owner Scott Osborn and winemaker Peter Bell and his team are changing the perception of Finger Lakes wines with startling Rieslings and cool-climate Chardonnays. Regularly recognized in national wine publications, Fox Run Vineyards was named one of the top 100 wineries in the world by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2008, and has been a multiple gold medal winner at the Riesling du Monde competition in Strasbourg, France.

About Red Newt Cellars: Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro is located just outside the bucolic hamlet of Hector on the east side of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York. As a recipient of Wine & Spirits Magazine's 2011 Winery of the Year, the message at Red Newt Cellars is simple: grown here, made here. With a collaborative team of winemakers and chefs, it is this combined effort between wine and cuisine that sets Red Newt apart.
