21st Annual Purple Foot Festival at Casa Larga Vineyards

Aug 25th, 2016

Fairport, NY - Casa Larga's annual harvest celebration will be held Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., rain or shine at Casa Larga Vineyards in Fairport, NY. It began, and continues to be, a way to celebrate and kick off harvest time at the winery and highlight the Colaruotolo family's Italian heritage. The Festival is best known for the authentic grape stomping that earned it the name of "Purple Foot."

"My Uncle Frank used to tell me that in Italy they really did step on the grapes, but only the women. Their feet were gentler and made a better wine. They would clean their feet before they got into the stomping barrel, of course," explains Andrea Colaruotolo-O'Neill, director of marketing. "People used to jokingly ask us if we stomped the grapes ourselves during winery tours, so we decided to give them a chance to try it out - and that's how the Purple Foot Festival started."

The Purple Foot Festival offers even more than old-world grape stomping. Guests can take their purple feet around the vineyard on hayrides, a vineyard tour or to activities suited for all ages. Activities for those under 21 include a dedicated children's area, crafts and karaoke plus a wide array of vendors with family-friendly wares.  For the adults, there will be live music performed by the band The Cool Club and the Lipker Sisters from 11:00 - 2:00and Blue Skies from 2:00 - 6:00, a Sangria Tasting Bar, a Harvest Tasting Bar, spirits, beer, hard cider tastings, and tours of the winery.

Festival goers can also attend seminars throughout the day featuring Sugary Delights, Nando's Abruzzo Style Sweets, Affair de Chocolat and the return of Two Crazy Chicks with Junk Food Wine Pairings, Round 4!
