Bike Tioga Comes Showcases Tioga County and Waverly

Jul 15th, 2015

The 13th Annual Bike Tioga event is being held on August 1st in its new location at the Waverly High School. Bike Tioga is not a race, but a ride of 20, 50, or 100 miles with various elevations throughout beautiful Tioga County. Riders are encouraged to stop along the way to visit local business and tourist attractions. Picnic lunches and farm visits have been popular stops in the past and the event has always emphasized a relaxed, fun environment.

Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. on August 1 for the 100 mile ride, 7:30 a.m. for the 50 mile ride and 8:00 a.m. for the 20 mile ride. The first 100 riders will receive free t-shirt (sizes are limited) and there will be free water and snacks for the riders.

"Bike Tioga is a wonderful way to explore and enjoy the natural beauty and the unique, local businesses of Tioga County, and get a great workout at the same time," said Rebecca Maffei, Director of Tioga County Tourism.

New this year, Waverly Police Department and Waverly Parks and Recreation will hold a children's bike rodeo to teach bike safety beginning at 10 a.m. and will have bike helmets to give away.

Committee members have been working hard to make this year's Bike Tioga event a memorable experience. Committee members include: Jessica Schillmoeller, Director at Worker Ownership Resource; and Dan Gellatt, Waverly Police Chief; Rebecca Maffei, Director, Tioga County Tourism; Rob Blaasch, Sergeant, Tioga County Sheriff, Charlie Havens, Waverly Parks and Recreation.
