Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day 2013-Tasty Treats at Culinary Tent

Yum’s the word for the Culinary Tent where the area’s top chefs and Cornell Cooperative Extension nutritionists demonstrate the culinary bounty of the Finger Lakes. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Cornell Cooperative Extension nutritionists will present Cooking Matters and other nutrition programs. The program will show how too cook quick, tasty, nutritious food on a budget. Recipes and tastings will be available.

At noon, Mo Tidball will show how to prepare the Wild Harvest Table., showing ways to prepare delicious wild game and fish. She also will talk about exciting Cornell nutrition research. At 1 p.m. popular Chef Richard Lerman and the Finger Lakes Bounty will spotlight foods grown in the Finger Lakes. Chef Lerman is a retired executive chef who now makes Chef Lerman’s specialty sauces which are sold online and in shops across the Finger Lakes. 

At 3 p.m. the folks from Muranda Cheese and the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail will share tips on how to serve local cheeses, make food and wine pairings and cooking suggestions.

At 4 p.m. you can get a sneak peak at what will be available at local farmer’s markets this summer and how to prepare them.

The goodies continue on Sunday as Mo Tidball repeats her Wild Harvest Table presentation at 10 a.m. Local dairy products will be spotlighted at 11 as the Extension staff whips up tasty Smoothies. Enjoy the taste of local cheese at Vanillen Dairy and the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail present tips on how to serve local cheeses, make food and wine pairings and offer cooking suggestions. Learn how to prepare tasty nutritious food on a budget at Cooking Matters at 1 p.m..  Meet the folks from Schrader’s Meat Market of Romulus, one of the county’s newer businesses, at 2 p.m. Cap off the weekend with taste s of wine country with Chef Mary Kay Reed. Mary Kay Reed is the chef owner of Tastes of Wine Country Café located in Ovid, NY and maintains the foodie website, http://tastesofwinecountry.com/
