Celebrate the History of the Erie Canal and Enjoy Family Fun with Monday Fundays at the Erie Canal Museum Mondays, July 8-August 26 at 1 pm

Jun 12th, 2013

Come celebrate the history of the Erie Canal and discover a new activity every week that’s fun for the whole family! As an exciting new addition to our educational programming, the Erie Canal Museum will be hosting Monday Fundays at the Museum on Monday afternoons this summer. Monday Fundays are made possible by the generous funding and support of M&T Bank.

Monday Fundays will be held every Monday from July 8 through August 26 at 1 pm. These events cost $5/child for one Funday and $30/child for all eight Fundays, with a discounted rate for museum members. Tickets will be available on the museum website and at the door. Children who attend all eight Fundays will receive a special surprise!

Join us for a series of activities, crafts, and demonstrations that capture the culture of the Erie Canal, the everyday lives of the people who lived, travelled, and worked along it, and the businesses that blossomed in Syracuse because of it. Activities will include a live demonstration by the official tin smith of the Statue of Liberty, ghost stories, paint your own Syracuse China, and a scavenger hunt through the museum. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in these fun activities.

Monday Fundays are part of the new summer programming for families offered by the Erie Canal Museum. These events are designed to introduce local families to the museum and its resources and to interest children in history and the Erie Canal through fun, hands-on activities. New events and activities every week will offer children the chance to learn about and connect with their community, its culture, and its past while having fun with their families.

The Erie Canal Museum is open seven days a week and has free admission: Monday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm; Sunday, 10am – 3pm. The Erie Canal Museum is also home to the Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center. For more information call (315) 471-0593 or visit eriecanalmuseum.org. The Erie Canal Museum is partially funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
