Corning's Gaffer District Announces Small Business Week

Apr 28th, 2017

Corning, NY—Corning’s Gaffer District would like to encourage the community to support Small Business Week, April 30–May 6, 2017. Corning Mayor, Richard Negri has issued a formal proclamation recognizing Small Business Week in the city of Corning.

According to the Small Business Association (SBA) website, www.sba.gov/nsbw, “Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.”

The SBA further states that, “More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. As part of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Every day, they’re working to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness.”

As part of Small Business Week, many Gaffer District businesses will offer special promotions throughout the week, including food samples, Mother’s Day discounts, free items with a purchase, and more. For a full listing of these special promotions visit, www.gafferdistrict.com/sbw.

Coleen Fabrizi, Executive Director for Corning’s Gaffer District states, “Corning’s Gaffer District’s message has become synonymous with the importance of Shopping Local and explaining the economic impact realized by supporting independently owned small businesses. Although we roll out the welcome mat throughout the year, we are especially excited to invite you to come and support Small Business Week!”

Additionally, the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a Regional Projects Roundtable, May 4, and one of our Gaffer District businesses is celebrating a major anniversary that week. West End Gallery, 12 W. Market St., is celebrating 40 years in the community with a ribbon cutting and reception on Friday, May 5 at 4:30pm.
