Corning's Gaffer District Encourages Community to Shop Local this Holiday Season

Nov 09th, 2015

Corning's Gaffer District and WETM 18 are excited to encourage the community to "Shop Local in Corning's Gaffer District" this holiday season with "Get Caught Shopping Local!" and Small Business Saturday, both meant to reinforce the importance of supporting small business.

Customers who shop, dine, or even get a haircut in Corning's Gaffer District during the week of November 9–15, 2015 may get caught - shopping local! Gaffer District businesses will randomly give $5 gift certificates to people enjoying the many amenities of Corning's beautiful downtown shopping district. More than 200 gift certificates will be given out from November 9–15, 2015. Business hours vary.

Understanding the important contributions small businesses make to their communities, Corning's Gaffer District is pleased to announce its participation in Small Business Saturday and the Neighborhood Champion program. On November 28, the Corning community is encouraged to take part in Small Business Saturday in downtown Corning. Shoppers can stop by to support local businesses and receive Shop Small® giveaways like tote bags, buttons and balloons. Business hours vary.

Small Business Saturday, on November 28, will feature:

  • music in Centerway Square
  • carolers
  • costume characters
  • an Ugly Sweater contest, winners will receive $50 gift certificates, one gift certificate per category (three categories: best group, best couple, best individual)
  • Santa in his Crystal House
  • opportunities to enter to win this year's snowman from Vitrix Hot Glass Studio
