DEADLINE EXTENDED – Submit Your Design Application for Second Annual Gingerbread Invitational!

Oct 19th, 2016

The Rockwell Museum is calling artists to submit design proposals for the Second Annual Gingerbread Invitational.  The deadline has been extended until October 20. Submissions can be sent to for submissions. Up to 13 submissions will be selected to be featured; each artist will then have one-month to create their design and drop it off at The Rockwell Museum on the designated date. Entry forms and competition rules can be found at www.rockwellmuseum.org/gingerbread.  The Gingerbread Invitational is a fun, artful gingerbread competition with a focus on historic landmarks and architecture in Corning and the surrounding region.

The exhibition will be on view November 22, 2016 through January 3, 2017. Throughout the holiday season, visitors to The Rockwell will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite creation. The winner of the Community Choice Award will be announced in early January. A panel of judges will announce three winners, who will be honored at the Gingerbread Invitational Awards Ceremony, to be held December 1, 2016.

Kristin Swain, Executive Director of The Rockwell Museum said, “The Rockwell is a community center, and we believe in advancing the desire of our founding collectors, Bob and Hertha Rockwell, to make The Rockwell accessible to as many people as possible. The enthusiasm we saw from the greater community for last year’s Gingerbread Invitational was tremendous – we have no doubt that we are on the right track to making this a beloved tradition for residents and visitors.”

Along with the exhibition, The Rockwell will feature gingerbread-related activities in the Family Exploration Studio, Family Sparkle Open House on December 3 and 4, 2016 weekend, and the return of a whimsical accessory for Artemus, the sculptural bison located on the façade of the building.

Willa Vogel, Project Manager of the Gingerbread Invitational said, “As much as it pains me to encourage holiday creep, the deadline to apply is right around the corner! Last year’s contest really set the bar high for another great competition this year – I can’t wait to see even more creativity.”

On December 1, 2016, The Rockwell will host an exhibition opening where a panel of judges will announce three winners based on creativity, accuracy, and overall presentation. The Community Choice Award Winner will be announced in early January.
