Digging Up History in Historic Palmyra

Jul 25th, 2014

Historic Palmyra is offering two more archeological digs at the Palmyra Historical Museum on October 29th and November 5th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The October 22nd event had been a great success and many treasures were found. All artifacts stay at the museum but the experience and expertise of our professional archeologists will teach the children how to conduct a dig the way they do on historic sites.

All materials are furnished and lessons will be taught in carefully scraping the dirt, measuring the depth, setting up a dig, cataloging and noting the find, as well as care of the find after retrieval.

If the weather is rainy and cold we have the option to go into the basement of the Palmyra Historical Museum in a special location. We are accepting a maximum of 16 children 8 different children at each dig ages 10 to 14 years old for this great experience. This event is a pilot program which may result in a more involved, regular camp or class in the future. This pilot program requires no supplies and is no charge at this time. Dress warm, wear old clothes that can get dirty, and bring your own gloves that fit and are heavy for working. Get in on the basement floor for this great event. Call (315) 597-6981 to reserve your spot. www.historicpalmyrany.com
