Dr. Frank Rieslings "Steal the Show" Again

Mar 27th, 2015

Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars has done it again. The winery has won an unprecedented fifth top honor for Riesling at a major U.S. wine competition this year. The "Best Riesling" award for the Dr. Konstantin Frank 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition this past weekend rounded off the winery's impressive winning streak.

Dr. Konstantin Frank Rieslings have been stealing the show since earlier this year, starting with the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition where the 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling won “Best White Wineâ€Â. Just a few weeks later, the same wine took top honors at the Florida State Fair Wine Competition. Shortly after, the winery was named “Riesling Championâ€Â at the International Eastern Wine Competition for its 2013 Riesling Reserve. And at the Monterey Wine Competition, the Dr. Frank 2013 Dry Riesling was named "Best Riesling".

Until this week, winery president Fred Frank was thinking the probability of winning a fifth top honor was low. "When I received a phone call saying our 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling won 'Best Riesling' at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, I was in awe. In our 53 years of winemaking, I can't recall another year in which our Rieslings have won so many top honors. We are honored," said Fred.

Several other Dr. Frank wines took awards at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition as well. Gold medals were won for the Dr. Frank 2014 Gruner Veltliner, 2013 Dry Riesling, 2013 Late Harvest Riesling and 2013 Riesling Reserve. Chateau Frank, the sparkling wine affiliate of Dr. Frank's, won a double gold medal for its Celebre, a sparkling Riesling.

Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator's "Hall of Fame."
