Dr. Konstantin Frank Legacy Continues into 4th Generation

Oct 01st, 2013

Hammondsport, New York – October 1, 2013 – The Frank family wine legacy that started with Dr. Konstantin Frank in the early 1960’s is officially continuing into its fourth generation with the arrival of Meaghan Frank to the family business this October.  Meaghan is the daughter of current winery president, Fred Frank and the great granddaughter of Dr. Konstantin Frank.  Her arrival to the winery is both historic and exciting for the winery and the region.

The Frank family is well known in the U.S. industry for its contributions to the Finger Lakes wine region.  Following Dr. Konstantin Frank, the winery passed hands to son, Willy Frank and then to Fred Frank, son of Willy Frank.  Meaghan will now join the family business as the fourth generation.  Meaghan recently received her MBA from the University of Adelaide in Australia, which has one of the top wine business programs in the world.  The family and winery is excited about the prospect of her breathing “new life” into the winery with so many of the ideas she will undoubtedly bring to the table.  Meaghan will work with father, Fred Frank who is also thrilled about her arrival. “Each generation of the Frank family has contributed to the winery’s growth and I am sure Meaghan will add her expertise to bring the winery further success,” said Fred.

Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States in the 1960’s. Son, Willy Frank, was also a “pioneer” in the region and was a tireless promoter of Finger Lakes wines.  Willy also established Chateau Frank in the 1980’s, where the region’s first methode champenoise vinifera wines were produced.  Fred Frank joined the winery in the 1990’s and established Salmon Run, the winery’s value brand.  Under Fred, wine quality and number of accolades increased greatly.  Meaghan Frank’s legacy will be one to watch in years to come.
