Canandaigua, NY (April 27, 2017) Bristol Mountain is excited to announce over $200,000 in on-mountain improvements to the resort this summer, to be completed for the 2017-18 winter season. Dan Fuller, Bristol’s President/General Manger described the improvements that will be made to the Upper Universe trail. “We will be widening the existing trail, adding 2,000 feet of new air and water lines for snowmaking, and supplementing the trail with 11 new energy efficient snowmaking guns.” According to Paul Trippi, the Mountain Operations Manager, “the addition of the energy efficient tower mounted guns will enable us to open the trail sooner while simultaneously allowing us to make snow on other trails as well.” Six inch ductile iron pipe will replace the existing steel pipe used for the water lines along with a new airline used to move compressed air to the tower guns. Trippi further commented, “We have been transitioning to using ductile pipe for our water lines as it has a considerably longer life than traditional steel pipe and can have a life span of over 80 years.”
Steven Fuller, Bristol Mountain Vice President, elaborated on the new snowmaking technology, “These snowmaking machines have the ability to connect via wireless technology and allow us to make consistent snow as conditions change in a wide range of temperatures.” Fuller went into detail on the trail construction, “widening Upper Universe to match the lower section which was constructed in 2015, will greatly enhance the trail and allow us to get one step closer to finishing the Galaxy Pod, a recent expansion of the mountain that has seen a new detachable lift, trails, and state of the art snowmaking improvements,” per Steven Fuller. Fuller commented that Universe is one of his favorite trails on the mountain because of its unique design characteristics and the scenic views.
The Universe trail can be accessed by the Comet Express Detachable lift, the Rocket Triple, or the Galaxy Express Detachable chair and is located on the northern part of the ski area. Bristol Mountain is recognized in the ski industry as having some of the most expansive and technologically advanced snowmaking capabilities in the country and this marks one of the many improvements that have been completed in the last several decades.
