Finger Lakes Celebrated Through Art

Jul 14th, 2016

Finger Lakes art and Finger Lakes artists will be showcased in the Arts Center of Yates County’s newest summer exhibit.  Art in the Finger Lakes opens on Friday, July 22nd with a free opening reception and the opportunity to meet the artists inspired by life in our region.

In addition to work by local painters, potters, jewelry, furniture and glass crafters and other assorted talent, the Art in the Finger Lakes exhibit will feature the work of two regional artists who are recognized both nationally and internationally.

Painter Pat Tribestone works from her own gallery in nearby Canandaigua but her impact has been felt across the country, with her work featured on the cover of Pastel Journal and students traveling long distances to attend her workshops in western New York and Pennsylvania.  Recently Pat received top honors in the Arts Center’s juried show, when judge Lyn Asselta picked her whimsical still life for the annual Florence Middlebrook Excellence in Painting award.

Photographer Helena Cooper, immigrated from Brazil to Ithaca, embracing the beauty of this region with its dramatic gorges, lakes, and rock formations. Helena sees herself as a photographer who captures designs and textures in nature.  She says “the nature of the water and landscape speak deeply to me as I explore the region with the eyes of an abstract painter.”

Art in the Finger Lakes opens on Friday, July 22nd from 5-7 pm.  Stop by and meet the artists, enjoy wine tasting from Keuka Spring Vineyards, music and hors d’oeuvres.  Everyone is welcome!
