Dundee, NY – Fulkerson Winery is honored to announce the following medal winners from noteworthy west coast wine competitions.
At the New World International Wine Competition in Ontario, California, the newly-released 2012 Juicy Sweet Moscato was awarded a Double Gold Medal. A double gold medal is awarded only when the judges unanimously agree that a wine deserves gold medal status. The Juicy Sweet Moscato was released in late January to rave reviews from consumers and now adds a highly prized Double Gold Medal to its résumé. It is a light bodied sweet white wine that showcases tropical flavors and a clean finish. In addition, the 2012 Juicy Sweet Matinee was awarded a Gold Medal. The Matinee is hugely popular. It is made from the Himrod grape and Fulkerson remains the only producer of a 100% Himrod wine in the Finger Lakes.
New World International has consistently been named as one of the top competitions for over 15 years. As the organizers explain, this particular competition is unique in that, “It is the only competition in America, and perhaps the world, to pit the best wines from each price class against each other to determine an overall best of variety or type.”
The 2012 William Vigne Juicy Sweet Riesling was awarded a Platinum Medal at the 29th Annual San Diego International Wine Competition in California. According to competition organizers, “Platinum awards will be reserved for wines nominated for Best of Show in these categories: sparkling, rose, white, red, and dessert.” Over 1,700 wines from around the world entered the competition. The William Vigne line of wines from Fulkerson Winery pays homage to the history, heritage, and tradition of the Fulkerson family. William Vigne was the first generation of Fulkerson’s in New Amsterdam (now New York City) in about 1619. The wine is comprised of 100% estate-grown Riesling grapes and was made by stopping fermentation halfway through to leave only natural sugars and delicate varietal character.
