Rochester, N.Y., March 14, 2014--George Eastman House today announced the spring lineup for its Wish You Were Here travel photography lecture series. Featured speakers are prominent photographer and RIT graduate Jeffrey Wolin, and author, journalist, and photographer Peter Guttman, and his teenage son, photographer Chase Guttman. Wolin, whose narrative portraits depict myriad individuals, including his children, Vietnam War veterans, and Holocaust survivors, will present his lecture on Thursday, March 20. Award-winning photographers Peter and Chase Guttman will share stories and images from their global adventures on Thursday, June 5. Both lectures will take place in the Dryden Theatre at 6 p.m. Through image and text, Jeffrey Wolin links person and place with the passage of time. Often focusing his lens on individuals who have experienced hardship, he creates portraits that are distinctly honest and human. Wolin is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He will discuss his recent work, including the series Pigeon Hill Portraits: Then and Now, named for a low-income area of his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Author, journalist, and photographer Peter Guttman has traveled to more than two hundred countries on all seven continents, creating a body of work that explores the world's cultural and geographic diversity. A two-time recipient of the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year Award, Peter has taught at the International Center of Photography, and his work has been featured in major publications, books, travel guides, and exhibitions. Peter's teenage son, Chase, has followed in his footsteps, traveling to more than forty-five countries and every American state. In 2010 and 2013, Chase was named Young Travel Photographer of the Year in an international competition judged by museum curators and magazine editors. Sharing photographs from their global excursions, the Guttmans will discuss their separate journeys in image making--Peter works exclusively with film, and Chase with digital--and their evolving partnership. Admission to Wish You Were Here lectures is free to museum members. Nonmember ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students. A book signing follows each lecture.
