Rochester, N.Y., May 21, 2018—The George Eastman Museum has announced the appointment of Jared Case to curator of film exhibitions. Case will be responsible for curating the screenings in the museum’s Dryden Theatre, assisting with moving image-related exhibitions, and facilitating film program collaborations with community partners. Jurij Meden, who held the position for the past four years, has accepted a position as the Head of Film Programming at the Austrian Film Museum in Vienna.
Case, who most recently served as the Head of Collection Information, Research, and Access for the museum’s Moving Image Department, has been with the museum for more than 18 years. Beginning his career at the museum as an intern, he was accepted as a student in the Jeffrey L. Selznick School of Film Preservation program where he graduated in 2002. He started his full-time career as a curatorial assistant and then cataloger for the Moving Image Department before securing his most recent position as the Head of Collection Information, Research, and Access. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating internal and external access to the museum’s Moving Image Department materials. Case, who served for four years as Executive Director of the Nitrate Picture Show, the world's first festival of film conservation, was appointed earlier this month as the festival's co-director with Deborah Stoiber and Jurij Meden, who will continue his collaboration with the museum from his new European position.
During his tenure at the museum, Case has successfully administered two grant-funded projects, the Technicolor Online Research Archive and online access to finding aids for the manuscript collections of independent filmmakers Douglass Crockwell, Leo Hurwitz, James Reese, and Lothar Wolff. He is also a founding member and has been the executive director of the Nitrate Picture Show for the past four years.
