Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Named to Wine & Spirits Magazine Top 100 Wineries of 2018

Sep 25th, 2018

(Dundee, NY) Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard has been selected as one of the Wine & Spirits Magazine Top 100 Wineries of 2018. Inclusion in the Top 100 is based on the overall strength of the portfolio. This is the 9th time in the last 10 years that Wiemer has received this honor.

The Winter 2018 issue is on shelves now, where you can read profiles of each of the 100 honored wineries. Wine & Spirits Editor Patrick Comiskey writes of Wiemer, “Hermann J. Wiemer not only took Top 100 honors this year: Fred Merwarth’s (Winemaker and co-owner) 2016s pretty much crushed the new tasting table in our Los Angeles offices… When it comes to Riesling, there is simply no one better in the United States.”

Wiemer will be joining the other Top 100 wineries, including Louis Roederer, R. López de Heredia , Trimbach, and Stag’s Leap among others from wine regions all over the world, to pour at the 15th Annual Top 100 tasting event on Tuesday, October 9th in San Francisco. “We are happy to be in such great company and to be representing New York State and the Finger Lakes Region!” says Wiemer co-owner, Oskar Bynke.

Regarding the award, the magazine writes, “Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting Event honors those wineries from around the world that delivered the best overall performances in W&S tastings throughout the year.”

Wiemer’s top scoring wines include the 2016 Riesling Single Select (95 points), the 2016 Riesling Reserve Dry (94 points), and the 2015 Noble Select Riesling Magdalena (94 points). These are among 11 Wiemer wines that scored over 90 points.
