OVID, NY, July 21, 2016 /Hosmer Winery/ -- Cameron Hosmer's father, a Syracuse textile manufacturer, had envisioned growing grapes on the gentle slopes of Cayuga Lake at the family's summer home. His vision took shape when Cameron and Maren started planting grapevines in the early 1970's. Although Cameron's father didn't get to see full fruition of this dream, the farm has grown to over 70 acres of premium wine grapes. After fifteen years of selling their grapes to others, Cameron and Maren had their own vision of making and selling their own wine. With their first vintage of 2,500 gallons in 1985, they opened a tasting room in their garage on Route 89 in Ovid, NY in the fall of 1986. In 1991 Hosmers moved their tasting room into finished barn across the street and today the winery produces 25 thousand gallons of wine annually. At this boutique level, the Hosmer family is able to assure the excellence of the entire process, from the basic fruit to the finished wine.
In the year 2016, 30 years after we first opened our tasting room doors, Hosmer Winery received 90 points and "Best Buys" for their 2014 Riesling in Wine Enthusiast, 90 point for the 2012 Vintner's Reserve Dry Riesling in Wine Spectator as well as a "Best In Class" and Double Gold at the International Eastern Competition for their single vineyard, 2013 Single Wheel Dry Riesling . It's recognition like this that makes us reflect on the 30 years of pride and commitment we have toward the Finger Lakes wine industry.
Starting Saturday, August 6th, 2016, we invite you to join us for a two day celebration of this milestone. We will launch our 30th Anniversary Party at 2pm with the release of our 30th Anniversary Sparkling wine affectionately named "Perla". The Tribal Revival Band will be playing outside in the vineyard, Blowin Smoke Barbeque will be serving some great food, wine and beer will be available by the glass and exclusive special pricing on wine will make you want to restock your wine cellar. If you are looking to bring more than wine home with you, we will have tasting and sales with Crosswinds Creamery and Big Sissy's Hot Pepper Jellies and Wine Trail Quilts will be showing her line of hand stitched quilts. Saturday's event will end at 6pm but the festivities will continue into Sunday for our weekly Music and Mimosas. Join us Sunday, August 7th from 12 - 3 as we serve freshly-made mimosas and light snacks with live music from Marc and Tom and take advantage of the final day of our huge sales event. Standard wine tasting are also available during our normal hours. While food, wine and beer is purchasable, the rest of this event is free of charge.
Hosmer Winery is open year round on the west side of Cayuga Lake at 7020 Route 89 in Ovid, NY.
