Learn about the “Shaker Seed Business” on April 27

A program on the “Shaker Seed Business” will be presented by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Geneva History Museum, 543 S. Main Street, Geneva. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The program by Denise Richter will focus primarily on the Shaker seed business in Shaker settlements near Albany, New York and nearby Massachusetts. The Shakers were a Christian sect that originated in England. In the 18th and 19th centuries, they established communities in upstate New York and New England, gradually spreading to the Mid-West.

Denise Richter is a past president of the Early American Industries Association, a worldwide organization with over 1800 members. Denise is also an antiques dealer with a special interest in woodworking tools and the Civil War. She especially enjoys researching obscure topics through historical societies and archives, and she is a regular volunteer at the Gettysburg National Military Park.

The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes is in its 48th year of programming. Meetings are free and open to the public, but membership is welcome and encouraged at $10 per year. Programs include meetings at the Geneva History Museum, field trips and social events. See our Facebook page for more news.
