The Legacy of the Erie Canal: A New Survey of Seneca Lake Reveals its Geological History and a Treasure Trove of Canal-era Shipwrecks

Sep 07th, 2022

Art Cohn will be giving an illustrative lecture on "The Legacy of the Erie Canal..." at the Watkins Glen Elementary School Auditorium and at the Finger Lakes Boating Museum.

The lectures will explore, in illustrative detail, what has been discovered at the bottom of Seneca Lake. Through Art Cohn and his team we now have images of canal-era shipwrecks, the discovery of a rare "canal boat," and the study of Seneca Lake's geology. These discoveries have helped tell the important story of the Erie Canal and the Finger Lakes connected together by the boats that once sailed on the waters.

The Watkins Glen Elementary School lecture will be held on Tuesday, September 27 starting at 6:30 PM.

The Finger Lakes Boating Museum lecture will be held on Thursday, September 29 starting at 7:00 PM.

This is a FREE EVENT. All are welcome to attend the lectures!
