"A Light in Troubled Waters" Auburn's 4th Annual Interfaith LGBTQ+ Pride Service

Jun 17th, 2022

Join us for our celebration of love and identity during Auburn's fourth annual LGBTQ+ Pride Service, featuring live music and candlelight, personal reflections, an introduction to safe spaces in Auburn, a banned book reading, artwork, and affirming prayer, as we become "light" for each other.

There is trouble around us, from anti-LGBTQ bills and book banning, to the concerted ways people are trying to push hate and exclusion, to personal experiences of isolation. We are called to be a light amid these troubled waters, guiding people to safe harbors and creating pockets of joy, resistance, pride, and love. It is not only LGBTQ people who stand in this light; it is people of color, people with disabilities, women, and anyone who is vulnerable to oppression. We stand together, allies for each other, in that light.

The service will be both in-person at Westminster Presbyterian Church (17 William Street, Auburn, NY 13021) and online via Facebook Live (www.facebook.com/westminsterauburn).

We give special thanks to all of this year's participants: artist Blake Chamberlain, musical groups Perform 4 Purpose and the Flock of Free-Range Children, Pride House youth and leaders, the City of Auburn, Downtown Auburn BID, Cayuga and Onondaga Community Colleges, Cornell University, Auburn Public Theater, the Equal Rights Heritage Center, and faith groups: Westminster Presbyterian Church, Saints Peter and John Episcopal Church, Auburn Unitarian Universalist Society, and Scipioville Presbyterian Church.
