Lights on the River Festival in Owego Makes the Holiday Season Bright

On Friday, December 4, 2015, the historic village of Owego celebrates the sights and sounds of the holiday season with their annual Lights on the River winter festival.

Activities begin at 4 p.m. with a free Kids’ Gingerbread House Workshop at the Tioga Arts Council, 179 Front Street, and letters to Santa and Dog Cookie Decorating at the Black Cat Gallery, 190 Front Street. The O’Tannenbaum Display at the Tioga History Museum, 110 Front Street, will be open for visitors to view and bid on dozens of beautifully decorated trees!

Between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., hot food and drinks are set up, the ice sculptors begin their work on the Gateway Deck, and live reindeer appear in the M&T Bank parking lot. TADA! Tioga Artistic Dance performs at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Riverow Bookshop, 187 Front Street.

Gather at the Courthouse Square a bit before 6 p.m. and watch Santa and Mrs. Claus flip the big switch to light up Owego and then visit them at the Elks Lodge, 223 Front Street, at 6:15.

There will be music throughout the village all evening on the streets and in the shops and restaurants, as well as entertainment.

Fireworks end the night with a bangover the Susquehanna River at 8 p.m.
