March 19th Cheese Expo to Promote Local Cheesemakers, Farmers

Mar 11th, 2013

Geneva, NY— [March 7, 2013]Love cheese? Join local, farm-based Cheesemakers at “Loving Local Cheese” on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Ramada Inn Geneva Lakefront, 41 Lakefront Drive, Geneva.  The open-house style event runs from 5:30 p.m. through 8 p.m., and is hosted by Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Ontario County, Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce, and Ramada Geneva Lakefront.

“It’s a great family event where the general public is invited to come and taste local cheeses from the Finger Lakes,” said Jim Ochterski, Agriculture and Economic Development Specialist at Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Ontario County.

“Loving Local Cheese” is an opportunity for the public to meet with local farmers, learn how to identify sources of local dairy, and sample juices from Red Jacket Orchards and taste a variety of cheeses.

“Each farm is working hard to produce different types of cheeses - sometimes the cows are grazed on grass, sometimes they’re eating hay, and each farm uses a different type of processing- and you can actually pick up the different flavors when you sample the cheeses,” said Ochterski.

A $5.00 donation at the door is suggested. Proceeds from “Loving Local Cheese” will be used to promote local food outreach.
