A giant hole in the floor is brought to life by artist Sean Fitzpatrick
WonderWorks hired a nationally recognized artist to create a 3D illusion to announce their summer pricing promotion.
"The idea is that the falling prices have caused architectural columns to break loose and crash through the floor of Destiny USA's Canyon Area. The giant hole in the floor is getting a lot of attention and people are taking tons of pictures. It's fun to watch kids stand on the artwork and pretend they are falling in while parents snap the pics." said Nicole L. Montgomery, WonderWorks Director of Operations.
The hole beneath WonderWorks is a detailed 3D drawing designed by Sean Fitzpatrick. Sean is a self-taught multimedia artist who has embraced an unconventional direction with his work. For the last 24 years, his mediums of choice have centered on materials that are not meant to last very long at all. With his company, Fitzy Snowman Sculpting, he creates sand sculptures, snow and ice sculptures, and custom carved pumpkins. He utilizes his creativity to turn these temporary works into engaging and entertaining displays that encourage people that view his works first-hand to appreciate the moment just a little bit more. His wish for his work is for his audiences to take that feeling away with them and apply it to their everyday lives.
Several years ago Sean discovered another temporary medium with a twist: 3D chalk art or, as it is sometimes called, anamorphic art. By distorting the image as it is created, he is able to create realistic illusions that fool the eye. Fortune 100 companies regularly seek out his services to help promote their brands. He now also creates limited permanent works like the giant hole under WonderWorks by using paints and digital artwork that can be printed in large format. He is one of only a handful of 3D artists to have his work featured in museums.
