New Executive Director Named for Friends of Ganondagan

Margaret Joseph begins new position on June 24

Victor, NY—The Friends of Ganondagan Board of Trustees has named Margaret (Meg) Joseph as the organization’s new executive director beginning Monday, June 24. “After a thorough search, we are delighted to welcome Meg to the Friends of Ganondagan,” said Daniel Rundberg, board chair. “Her commitment, passion, and enthusiasm for our mission comes at a key moment as we continue to move our organization through our next phase of growth.”  

The board noted the strength of Ms. Joseph’s management-leadership skill set including financial tracking and management, building cross-functional teams, improving operations through clear processes and systems, cultural competency, marketing and branding, promotions, and a clear values alignment with the Friends organization.

As executive director, Ms. Joseph will lead the Friends of Ganondagan's continued growth and will structure and optimize the Friends’ operations. “I am excited to be joining Friends of Ganondagan at such a pivotal time,” says Ms. Joseph. “The upcoming Seneca Art and Culture Center is destined be a true Finger Lakes attraction, and the Iroquois White Corn Project provides an exceptional opportunity to support Ganondagan and create nutrition education in our community and on a national level. I eagerly await Ganondagan's upcoming Dance and Music Festival in July, our biggest event of the year."

A Mendon resident, Meg most recently worked as an independent marketing professional. Previously, she served as the marketing director for Toshiba Business Solutions, account supervisor for Forward Design, Inc., and marketing communication specialist for Bausch and Lomb, Inc. She received her bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College and her master’s in education from Nazareth College.

The Friends’ Executive Committee also announces that former executive director, Jeanette Miller will be utilizing her personal and professional talent and passion in the position of program director. “Jeanette Miller served for many years as Executive Director and the Friends will be eternally grateful for her years of dedication, leadership, and management of a young burgeoning organization,” said Laurie Allan, board staff development chair. “We would not be where we are now without Jeanette.” Ms. Miller served as the first executive director of the organization since its inception in 1989.

The Friends of Ganondagan, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed to support Ganondagan State Historic Site as the internationally recognized resource for Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) history, culture, and living traditions that express universal ideals of peace, cooperation, and respect for each other and the natural world.

Overseen by its board of Trustees and supported in part by its membership and volunteers, Friends of Ganondagan’s varied programming and activities include annual events like its signature Native American Dance & Music Festival, Native American Winter Games & Sports, Living History Re-enactment Event, and Canandaigua Treaty Day, as well as a Native American Lecture Series, traditional workshops and demonstrations, recreational activities, and off-site educational outreach.
