New German Winery on Keuka Lake Wins Double Gold and Best of Class at the 2017 New York Wine & Food Classic Competition!
HAMMONDSPORT, NY - Weis Vineyards may have just opened the doors to their tasting room this spring, but they are wasting no time in taking home the gold!
The newest addition to the Keuka Lake winery lineup, located newest addition to the Keuka Lake winery lineup, located on the east side of the lake, has just been awarded with “best cold climate white varietal” and a double gold rating for their 2016 Heart of the Lake from the 2017 New York Wine & Food Classic Competition. Seven wines were entered into the competition and all seven wines medaled, with the 2016 Semi Dry Riesling and 2016 Dry Rosé also taking home a gold rating.
Weis Vineyards offers traditional, handcrafted, German-style wines. Owner/Winemaker, Hans Peter Weis, was born in Zell Mosel, Germany, into a multi-generational wine making family and is continuing this family tradition here in the U.S.
After eleven years of working locally as a winemaker he and his fiancée made the decision to open their own location and have not looked back. “We are dedicated to providing exceptional, high quality, German-style wines, as well as high quality customer service,” says Hans. “We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel comfortable and at ease while enjoying the wines we worked so hard to create.”
Since the opening in May, Weis has released a full lineup of wines including eight different white wines, a rosé and one dry red, with more red wines to follow this fall. Hans already has big plans for vintages to come, prepping to bring some German style techniques and sparkling wines to his tasting room.
