CORNING, NEW YORK – The Rockwell Museum of Western Art recently introduced a new, interactive way to experience the special exhibition, National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West. Visitors can now use their mobile phone or tablet to explore the richness, beauty, and issues of the American West through hundreds of photographs, National Geographic articles, documents, videos, and other memorabilia. Twelve stops are included in the tour and can be accessed at the visitors’ leisure and in the order of choosing. Both an audio tour, accessible on any type of mobile phone, and a web tour, accessible on any smart phone or tablet, is available free of charge. The Museum’s free Wi-Fi is available to all visitors. As a courtesy to other Museum visitors, all tour participants are asked to use ear phones while touring, which are available complimentary at the Museum admission desk.

National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West is an unprecedented collection of iconic images of the West created by 83 National Geographic photographers over a span of some 125 years and including such well-known names as William Henry Jackson and Ansel Adams. A companion book to the exhibition, National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West: Capturing 125 Years of Majesty, Spirit and Adventure (National Geographic Books, October 2012), features 175 photographs, including rarely published and never-before-seen images.
National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West is now on view at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art through September 15, 2013.
About the Exhibition
The National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with President Jim McNutt first thought of the gallery concept as a way to open the "vault" on rare and amazing National Geographics photographs of the West.
With the help of former Director of Photography, Rich Clarkson, the collection was carefully handpicked to form an unprecedented group of images with a photo book and gallery opening in 10 Museums West venues, a partnership of Western Museums of North America.
The exhibition is organized by the National Museum of Wildlife Art in collaboration with the National Geographic Society and Museums West. Presented by the Mays Family Foundation. This Rockwell Museum of Western Art exhibition is locally presented by World Kitchen, exhibition sponsor.
