New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association Honors Holiday Inn Employee

Apr 29th, 2013

(ELMIRA NY, April 29)– The Stars of the Industry awards program, given out by the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association each year, honors employees of the hotels, motels and tourism-related businesses throughout the state who best represent the quality service and spirit of the hospitality and tourism industry.

Laurie Desmarais, Guest Service Representative at the Holiday Inn Elmira Riverview, was the recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year award (150 Rooms or Less) as well as the prestigious Pinnacle Award. The Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year award recognizes a non-management employee (e.g., concierges, housekeepers, etc.) who provides outstanding service to the property, guests and community.

All of the Stars winners from 2013 were eligible to win the Pinnacle Award, which is given to an individual who epitomizes contributions to the industry. NYSHTA choose Laurie as the 2013 winner.

Sheila Thomas, General Manager at the Elmira property said, “Laurie’s nature is to be a very caring and compassionate person and can’t help but instinctively show that with her actions every day.  These qualities make Laurie a true asset to our hotel and the community.”

“Every year, the state’s hospitality industry nominates its most outstanding employees. After reviewing all of the nominations submitted, the judges agreed that Laurie Desmarais was the best of the best,” said NYSH&TA President Jan Marie Chesterton. “All the winners of this year’s awards are STARS in every sense of the word and shining examples of what New York State hospitality is all about.”

Desmarais was recognized at the Association’s 2013 Stars of the Industry Gala & Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza, White Plains on Monday, April 22.
